as promised pic of my new (well second hand but new for me) MKIV Golf GTI.

She is the 150bhp version and is fitted with an ms designs (make the anni edition kit for vw so good quality outfit) body kit. wasnt sure if i was keen on the kit but now i really like it :) only thing is that car could maybe do with bigger rims, maybe audi rs4 style 18"s but we shall see!

First impressions, quicker than i thought, seems faster than my 1.8 alfa by a good bit, deffo more torquey anyway. Ill prob get an engine remap in January so she should see 200bhp then.

Not been on any twisty bits, ill see how that goes when i go home to wexford to my parents for chrimbo

Cost 14250 from a garage with a service and a 12mth warranty. which aint bad as decent private examples seem to go for that plus ive got the leather recaros and the body kit cost circa 1.5k fitted (its 620stg to buy unpainted)

all in all im chuffed :D

Your numberplate's only half blanked out on it. Its pretty easy to guess, well I guessed it before I read elexes' post, if I were you I'd blank it out properly.

Congrats Cyrus - nice car. The kit is a lot more subtle than most, I can see how it's grown on you. If it were me I'd leave the wheels. Personally I don't think any car looks more ridiculous with big wheels than a Golf.

Howd'ya fare out with the sale of the Alfa?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Sweet looking motor best of luck with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭bmoferrall

Good choice Cyrus (silver again  ).
The kit enhances the car quite nicely. Side profile is particularly nice, less so the front and rear views. I reckon the existing alloys suit the car very well.

Is there any difference between the 150 and 180bhp versions of the gti, in terms of engine internals. Just wondering how the 150 version will cope with the extra 50bhp?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Cyrus wrote:

Yep the big benefit of the turbo is that it boosts torque and most importantly, it will give most of the torque from low revs onwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

thanks folks @ ds20 i may go for 17"s to fill it out a bit, ill see definately no bigger than that tho, got a good price for the alfa from a fellow boardser!

@BMoferral, i know i wanted a different colour but it had the spec i wanted (recaros in black leather) and low milage (31k  ) so i said screw it im not wasting another 3 months to find one in black :)

the 150/180 engines are the very same (same engine as cupra audi tt etc) apparently 200bhp is no problem for it, over that needs a bigger turbo

i take your point on the kit, maybe the back is a little fussy but to be honest its really growing on me and the one thing i was worried about was it looking tacky but i think im safe enough!

Good choice Cyrus. Dunno, I think I'd leave the original wheels on it myself or if you do change go for original VW. Best of luck with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,326 ✭✭✭ciarsd

nice set of BBS rims on it, and you've a perfect match :)

best of luck with the new car.

    Nice Mota!

I like the kit, i like any kit tbh once it isnt ott and this one just pulls that of nicelly. I personally would change the wheels for bbs ones, but its not my car so dont listen to me

How much would that body kit cost to buy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

body kits cost stupid money, my one was nearly €1000 before being painted and fitted (i didnt oay that prev owner did)

You can get the anniversary edition kit for around 200 for each of the bumpers and 300 for the skirts, then it needs to be painted and fitted

alternatively theres a replica of the anni kit on ebay for about 400 incl shipping, made from cheaper materials but supposed to be pretty good!

Oh and i would really love BBS rims but they cost so much, if something came up secondhand id be all over them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 707 ✭✭✭d4r3n

150 bhp and 1270 kg without the leather, I don't think bigger wheels should be on your shopping list. Nice looking though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Big Balls

Cyrus - nice spec on it. I had a 2003 GTI for about 14 months and you may or may not know, I have a MKV one now so as you can see, I like them a lot!

The wheels deffo need to go up a size I think - all due to the kit. It makes them look tiny.

These wheels would look sweet but are not cheap - BBS RCs and are 18" and look very like the Anni wheels.

    VW_golf(4)yomi2.jpg

Or you could go with these, VW Santa Monicas - I had them on my last GTI and they're 17".

impressive, I didnt think you'd get so much out of a remap on the 150Gti. Upsolute says it can get 190HP and 200 lb/ft ... not bad

Revo can get around 208bhp out of a DBW 150 bhp 1.8T.

Cyrus - pop over to Martin in Westward Engineering in Enfield - Revo do free 5 hour trials of their remaps on petrol cars.

santa monicas look nice, good plain design, how much?

theres a few tsw rims in a similar style to the bbs ones also that im looking at

re the remap might go for the upsolute remap, im not looking for 220+ and its cheaper than a revo one!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Big Balls

I think I paid 2,000 with tyres for them.. I got replicas though and I didn't know of eiretyres at the time. I would get genuine VW wheels if I was going for them again because the finish on them peeled a bit from washing with alloy cleaner.

The finish on the 18s on my GTI are not too different from the Santas and they have not marked with regular cleaning but are genuine VWs which the car came with.
