I have a Sky digital setup at home, in order to setup a second connection can I connect a Quad LNB to this and attach any type of receiver to this setup or does it have to be a sky digibox ?

You can connect any receiver to an unused connection on the quad LNB.
But it would not see your subscription card so only FTA channels would be visible. You could stick a second SKY digibox to an unused connection on the quad too , again it would only see FTA or what the card in it allowed.

My current setup is that I pick up rte via an aerial and use the sky box to pick up the FTA channels. Am thinking of having the same setup in the bedroom, I know I will need the lnb but was wondering was i tied to having a sky digibox also.

Any recommendations on what receiver would be adequate for this ??

Any receiver is fine. A non-Sky one can be motorised (20 satellites and many eglish language, sp[ort and music channels.

Only the "Interactive Text" and 7 day EPG works on Sky Digibox though.

Check out Maplin and Satellite.ie and magasines What Satellite and Tele Satellite International.

Another option is a larger dish and put three LNB's on it and use a DiSEQ switch to swap between them. Hotbird / Astra 1 / Astra 2 - not as many channels but faster to flick between them.

    LNB's have 4 Bands - a bit like MW/SW/LW/FM on a radio.
It is possible to setup something where one box controls which band you are on and the other boxes can see any channel on that band. I don't know if all the BBC and ITV channels are on the same band fo example.

But better off with something like a quad LNB where each box can choose it's own band. Or you could get a second dish with it's own LNB.
