Anyone else get hangovers really easily as in after 3 or 4 drinks and after sleeping late. Always feel crap no matter what how much I drink. Hate people who "never suffer from hangovers" Think I heard unfit people suffer more than fit people, but to get fit I should probly stop drinking!!

What I find upsetting is that at 24 my hangovers are 10 times worse than they were two years ago. I dread them when I am 30 or 40. I cannot function when I am hungover for the entire day, and allot of times it will be well into the second day before I shake it, and I am fit.

I get awful hangovers, they seem to have got worse as I've got older, maybe it's because I drink more now I don't know. But I don't get as drunk as I used to, i.e. doing stupid things, total blackouts etc. Still if I'm out for a night it's going to be 8 pints and up, then I'll suffer for 2 days afterwards. People who don't get hangovers either have extremely fast metabolisms or get drunk quickly so don't put much alcohol in their system.

I dont think its metabolisim, my metabolisim is incredibly fast. An example is that I forced myself food for 4 months while I was "loading" in the gym, I was in there 4 - 5 nights a week for two hours and eating 3 times as much as I would usually and I have an enourmous appetite. I went from 14 - 15 stone, half muscle half weight. I have had injuries for the last month so I havent been able to go to the gym, I just returned to my normal eating habbit (which is still more than anyone I know) and I have dropped to 14 stone again.

I could eat nothing but McDonalds Ice cream sundays for a year (I would die in fairness) but I wouldnt put on weight. For me to put on the stone, I had to eat 8000 calories at least a day, a normal mans is 2 - 3000. Anyway my point is, my metabolisim is lightspeed but my hangovers are vicous, I'm also a very fast healer when it comes to wounds and injuries so I dont understand why I get them so bad. Could it possibly be a frame of mind thing?

i hardly get any hangovers, and thats after a heavy nights drinking,
a uneasy stomach for an hour after waking up is the usual, but thats about it.

I put one up in know your nerds briefly before, but took it off shortly afterwards, but I have promised to post a picture in the fitness forum of my progress in March, considering I was pretty skinny before, had never been to a gym!

Maybe i'm misreading all that but you were really skinny at 14 stone? Are you 8 feet tall or summat?

Anyway to the OP, I got my first hangover a few months back at the ripe old age of 26. I still only get them very rarely but find i have to prevent them in the first place rather than try and cure them as no matter what i do, if i get a hangover it's guaranteed to be with me all day.

Plenty of water before sleep does the trick for me.

the thing about the drinking water thing is that, although effective, you need to drink (well I do) at least 3 pints before bed for it to help in any way, this leads to me having to p*ss all night or wake up really early in the morning dying for a p*ss. But forcing water into you definitely helps a bit.

First hangover at 26? Do you not drink much or something, Im always suspicious that people who claim no hangovers just dont get pissed properly. And if you dont get hangovers surely you'd want to be get pissed every night. What amount did you drink to receive your first hangover?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 387 ✭✭fischerspooner

yes I don't believe them either, for every high there is a low, if you get drunk you must be hungover the next day, or else there's something wrong with you or your nerves are numb.

It just depends what you class as a hangover. I always feel really sh1tty and drained after a heavy session and sometimes get a bit of a queesy stomach. My mental skills get severely retarded and I have trouble stringing sentences together. In fact basic human interaction is usually beyond me for pretty much the whole day after. The headaches however only started recently and they suck arse in a major way.

Ironically this last year I've eased off on the drink a lot and the sesh that triggered the first hangover was relatively mild in comparison to times gone by. Maybe I need to go back to drinking gallons to prevent my hangovers?

Oh and i don't smoke, don't know if that has anything to do with it but I know a couple of people who's hangovers were vastly improved after quitting cigarettes.

I used to get terrible hangovers. They have eased off as I have gotten older though.

Hangovers are worse for some reason if you've been smoking heavily during the night.

Well I am not proud of it or anything. But I have had only ever one hangover in my whole life and it took me ages again to touch a drop.

I just recently had my house warming party and spent the whole night drinking and went to bed at about 7am and got up again about 11am. And i felt tired i must admit but just turned on the playstation and went and got myself another can. And that night i was drinking wine, beer, spirits !
Yet my sister only has to have 3 cans and she has the worst headache ever.

Some people are just lucky ;)

It can depend on what you drink. They say the "dark stuff" ie whiskey and red wine can make you feel more sick than drinking vodka and white wine. One thing I do know, to prevent your stomach feeling sick the next morning, don't take any medicines or painkillers. They only make it feel worse.

If you are an irregular drinker you will have worse hangovers, if you have a "few" drinks most nights the hangovers dont get as bad, don't ask me why but thats just how it works for me.

I know i'll be on a bender over christmas and after the second day it'll be like back in my college years and will be grand again the next morning as long as I remember to down load of water and stuff my face before going to bed.

Yes this isnt healthy and i'll pile on the pounds...but thats what new years resolutions are for!!
