Personally I saw an uncut club showing of "I Spit on Your Grave" in the IFI which was pretty horrific. It was an experience though and certainly did the job of horrifying though I'm not sure if it was entertainment...

spit on your grave thats a good one
but what about Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond"

that was pretty bad even by my (non-existant) standards
check it out! vipco have released it on their vault of horror collection

Yeah not such a fan of Fulci. I have City of the Living Dead but I found it consisted of gore interspersed with hours of strange dialogue.

Would be more of an Argento fan.

There are load's of harsh movies.

    Cannibal Holocaust
    The Untold Story
    Africa Addio
    Ebola Syndrome
    Mondo Cane
    Maniac
    Scrapbook
    Cannibal Ferox
    I spit on your grave
    Dr.Lamb
    Daughter of darkness

It all depend's on the individual person whether it is harsh or not.None of the above bother me but an eye ball scene as in Zombie Flesh Eaters or The Beyond make's me squirm.
For some strange reason 10 year ago when I was collecting these movie's on bootleg tape the eyeball scene's did not bother me but I think I have changed.

Anyway a movie you should all see is,

    Thriller: A Cruel Picture

What can I say,it will deprave and corrupt!

Make sure you don't get the cut version called Thriller: They Call Her One Eye (Vengeance Edition). This has all the violence in the uncut edition but shed's the explicit sex.

Watch this movie for new year!:)

    Hmmm.....

    I'd say....

    Cannibal Holocaust
    The Beyond

I've seen alot of those sort of movies alright, love them, but none of them actually shock me, rather, they entertain. The two above though were fairly....eh....gross. :)

Also, for no holds barred offensiveness, the Toxic Avenger IV takes the crown with old age pensioners having their heads run over by cars, retarded children being mown down by an m60 wielding maniac and other such general scenes. I loved it - but its so painfully disgusting and offensive!

While not technically a horror the harshest movie I think has to be "Man Bites Dog", it puts any gore fest to shame!

I've only seen 1-3, must get my hands on this!:D

Cannibal Holocaust or Beyond the Limits... ****, that film is beyond the limits, kinda like gore-porn.

I find excessive gore flicks are a little immature tbh, unless they have something else to offer.

1-3 are surprisingly totally different to the fourth one. As well as that, it's not very well known. When originally trying to hunt it down the guys in both HMV and Zhivago insisted I was confused as there was no such thing as a Toxic Avenger IV.

Unlike the first 3, which are ultra cheesy 80's fllicks, the fourth one is much more modern with great gore, and even better humour.

It even has Ron Jeremy! :v:

I had to order it from the Troma website though to get it unrated. You can't get it R2, only R1, but that said, alot of the R1 discs for sale are the heavily cut version which aren't much fun at all.

Oh and Kernel, I saw that film - very wierd. Beyond the Limits, that is. It seemed to aims to some glorify/stylish ott violence, with these disgusting slo mo scenes as someone had their face beaten in with a hammer. Very violent film.

Yeah, some scenes even made me wince... although when I watched it again I realised I was strangely desensitised to them..... Strange film, and strange director!

I've seen a few of these films. Most of them are actually not much use as films other than to shock you with powerful images. Went through a stage a few years back when I actively sought alot of this stuff and watched. Not so interested now. Looking back I still think the stand out in terms of quality film as well as a shocking first viewing is Cannibal Holocaust. I quite like Maniac as well. I've got a good few fulci films in the collection but always found the effects were a bit poorly done. There is a scalpel to the eyeball scene in New York Ripper which was a bit rough though.

Thriller was good as well. Always like a good revenge flick.

Basically if you seek out these films you may watch them once but aren't likely to watch again. Your not likely to take too much from them either.

Ive watched all of the above barring a couple at least 3 times.I watch em,but em back on the shelf and pull them out again and give em a spin after a year or so.
Oh,and Fetus can now be added to the list.
    It is harsh.

Midnight meat train was the most horrible film i have seen so far, ugh!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 137 ✭✭Inglorious

I'm gonna throw Irreverisble onto this list. Granted it's not a horror film, but I find it far harsher than most gorefests.
Begotten is pretty harsh as well but more in the surreal sense.

In my opinion, the harshest movies I have seen are not necessarily horror movies or gore movies but are really messed up.

Here would be my top 3 movies that left me scarred!

    1. A Serbian Film (Uncut)
    2. Irreversible
    3. Antichrist
