Improving UHF reception

I'm living in Meath with UHF aerial mounted on roof picking up BBC1+2, UTV and C4 from Brougher Mountain.
My reception suffers from a good bit of snow and shadowing.
Was thinking of replacing the cable run from the aerial with double shielded sat cable to see if this would improve the signal any bit.
Should this make any noticeable difference?
Also the masthead amp is pretty old. Was wondering should I change this?
Any suggestions on best moves to improve the signal?

How old is the aerial itself? Does it look drab or elements missing?

Replacing the cable with CT100, is definitely a step in the right direction. It would do no harm! As for the masthead amp, I'm usually of the notion, if it's not broke, don't fix it! Though it depends on the severity of weathering it has, are the contacts badly corroded?

Also, can you find out what Make/Model the masthead amp is? If it's low enough gain, maybe put in a higher gain amp, preferably with variable gain.
