    As the title says, I'm looking for an audio codec for 706d video's. It came with a H264 video, which I can view, but not hear, as it uses 706d audio codec :( I'm looking for one that works in Windows, btw.

    If anyone could help, it'd be nice.

    Windows Midia player failed like usual, and the file The Edge supplied didn't work either :(

    Using Stormcodecs' Media Player Classic, I tried opening one of the files, and this was returned:
    Stream 1

    Media Type 0:
    --------------------------
    AM_MEDIA_TYPE:
    majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    subtype: Unknown GUID Name {0000706D-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A}
    bFixedSizeSamples: 1
    bTemporalCompression: 0
    lSampleSize: 4608
    cbFormat: 18

    WAVEFORMATEX:
    wFormatTag: 0x706d
    nChannels: 2
    nSamplesPerSec: 48000
    nAvgBytesPerSec: 7887
    nBlockAlign: 1024
    wBitsPerSample: 0

    It may mean something to someone.

    It's deffo AAC audio your dealing with. Maybe your missing the correct directshow splitter for MP4 files. Hmmm...maybe it's [FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]aacPlus audio you have.

    Try ffdshow
    It will decode both H264 & AAC audio using far less resources than most other methods. (Quicktime, Videolan, etc)
    Ensure you tick the audio option during install.

    Sweet. I was using "ffdshow-20041012". Didn't know there was a newer one (it isn't on the SourceForge site). I'll try that one.

    /edit

    No joy :( The audio still doesn't work. VideoLAN, BSPlayer, Windows Media Player, Real Player, but still no luck :(

    Anyway I could get a sample of the video?

    I downloaded part of the file and it's deffo AAC.
    I demuxed the audio to raw aac file....attached. You'll be able to play that fine with ffdshow or coreaac. Sure, even winamp.

    Avi is a terrible container for aac. The person who encoded it most likey used the CyberLink's H.264 encoder because it's the only one I've come across that saves to AVI. Madness!
    Likey that this would play fine in CyberLink DVD player software too but I can't check that right now.

    *.MP4 (or *.mov) or *.MPG should be the containers used. (There are others)
    When playing this, the directshow AVI parser can't decode both streams.

    Gimmie a min with this and I'll play around with it.

    Just noticed that there's a file called "videoteXt-0.5.tar.gz". Inside is a few files, but it doesn't look like it was compiled. I'm a noob at compiling this sort of stuff, so I can't do much with it, but in a readme, it says "Videotext-Device-Driver V1.4 for Linux", which is useless for me, as I'm currently using Windows2K. I'll try Knoppix on it, but at another time, as I'm just off to bed now (t'is late, + work tomorrow).

    Oh, and gspot fails when it tries to render the video.

    Managed to play this...somewhat a tad tricky.
    Bit messy so bear with me.

    Download virtualdubmod, FFDShow & GraphEdit

    1: Open the video in virtualdubmod and say No to rewriting the vbr header.

    2: Goto "Streams/Stream List" and hit the Demux button to save the sound. Save the file as "sound.aac"

    3. Once the sound is saved, hit the "Disable" option and click ok.
    Goto "Video" and select Direct stream copy. File/Save and save the file as say "Video.avi"

    Now, open unzip GraphEdit and run it. Hit "Ctrl-R" and open the video.avi
    Hit "Ctrl-R" again and open the sound.aac.

    You should see something like this:
    untitled7ck.png

    Hit the play button and your away.
    In effect, your playing the file via 2 directshow filters (FFDSHow)
    It's probably possible to re-mux the two files in a proper MP4 container but the video would need to be saved as a RAW H.264 stream first. This workaraound should work for the time being. ;)

    Found a program called "Super" (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) which is not only free, and easy to use, but also sloves this puzzle. I'm writing this in case anyone does a search for 706d, and see's this thread. The program is able to convert it to a type that your PC can play (eg: DivX, Xvid, avi, Mpeg4, etc).

    Damn sweet program. I think its what The_Edge has said, but someone made a program out of it. The credits of the program say it all:
    As SUPER © is a simple GUI, the quality of the rendered files or the played files DOES NOT depend on SUPER © The speed, rendered quality or the variety of the codec selection are the result of the great work achieved by the respective authors of ffmpeg , mencoder , mplayer , x264 , ffmpeg2theora , MusePack (mpc) , libavcodec library & the theora/vorbis RealProducer's plugIn. The whole credit SHOULD go to these authors for their great ongoing projects.
