my uncle gave me his old pc and told me that the on-board usb sockets are not working. i bought a pci usb 2 card and installed it fine.. this works grand with my card reader but when i plug my ipod into it i get a "usb device not recognized" and due to this i cannot install my ipod on this pc. i have firewire but the new ipods dont support that...

on another note, i bought and installed a new wifi card into the same computer, this has also ceased working after about a week of working fine.. i find it a bit strange for 2 cards to go faulty so im thinking it may be a problem with the motherboard.. is there any other explaination?? any way to solve the ol usb problem???

    cheers

Possibly there is insufficient power being supplied. A powered hub might solve that if, indeed, that was the problem. One also wonders why the onboard USB is not functional and whether this older PC is on the way out. BTW which OS?
