Or Acronis - if you can get your hands on it.

Aye. Take a look at PC magazines, they'll often have free copies (Acronis PE,for example is sitting in front of me)

I'll just pimp partimage and g4u which you will find on most linux live CD's

I think Norton ghost only clones IDE to IDE, but Acronis can clone IDE, SATA and USB Drives

I doubt they put a 7200rpm drive in your xps, unless they've really turned into the sabbiest ****ers in the world. What does it sy on your invoice re: the HDD?

I use Acronis myself, had probs with the older versions of Ghost...

Acronis runs from windows and is generay faster the nortons anyway...also the image files it creates are smaller the one from Ghost.

PC Pro Mag did a review of both programs in its latest issue grab a copy or grab a copy in easons and take a seat and read the 2 reviews.

Acronis gets my vote, had a dud HD a few years back so im a lil paraoid about backing up my stuff now :)

    Hope this helps...

PS i cloned a 250gig HD to a 74gig image in 113 mins just to give u an idea....

    Good luck...

    Misty

I've used Acronis and it does the job.

But you can't resize it's Secure Zone Partition and expect your stored image to remain unharmed. :(
That's what happened to me anyway, and I found myself, once again, reinstalling Windows.

I use it to clone C: with Windows and all my Program Files, then keep D: and E: for media and games. :D

The TerabyteUnlimited utilities are absolute tops as far as I am concerned. The simplest is ImageForDOS, then ImageForWindows (with which IforDOS is included), then BootIt-NG if you want full partitioning and imaging as well as a Boot Manager. Very cheap in comparison to other software and all of them come as fully functional trialware. Cant say fairer than that IMHO. If you decide to try BiNG then suggest not to rush to install it on the HDD just cancel setup and go into maintenance mode. Read the pdf manual in the zip download for further details and advice. It may lack an attractive GUI found is Acronis and DriveImage (now Ghost) but it is really functional and versatile.

I've heard good things about BootIt pdogs, might give it a try.
