  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭Dingatron

Another guinea pig here. Just ordered one so we'll see what happens. It says that the item does not ship outside the US but accepted my order and shipping address so wait and see. Heffo9 did you get shipping confirmation?

yeah realised it was through tigerdirect afterwards, lets us know how you get on with customs, taxes, vat, etc.

Doesnt seem that great of a deal, for another €30 you could get one delivered from Komplett and not have to worry about customs or vat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭TomCo

Its at that price at the moment, their delivery is a rip off though.

    Thats a piss take.

Damn impulse buying lol! Looks to have shipped anyway as I've no option to cancel the order now. Delivery estimate: January 2, 2006 - January 11, 2006 The BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB on ocuk is £258.44 STG which works out at €380 before shipping according to XE.com's rates of exchange?

even if we get for tax, the card still works out as a good deal. consider that the evga cards have a life time guarantee and you can trade it in with evga if you ever want to upgrade.
heres a link to a review

Yeah had a look at the reviews and benchmarks. Looks to be one of the fastest GT cards factory overclocked out there and their warrenty is very good. Beats the BFG OC one. Like to see some benchies of 2 of these in SLI. Even if taxed its still in line with what you'd pay in Europe for it if not cheaper. Don't expect to see it till late January though! Shipping from the States is a disaster.

got mine for 280$ from newegg about 3 weeks ago, since then you could have gotten it for 270$ as well (excluding 10$ mail-in-rebate)
    poor deal IMHO
newegg + shopthestates.com, nothing else you need :)

btw, most of them were 470/1200 by mistake, should have been 460/1100, so expect artifacing if your's is still factory unintentionally oc'd, but I think the newer batches are no longer suffering from that. mine did 465/1120 without problem on stock cooler, havent tried yet with my nv5 silencer

silent, thanks for bursting me bubble, by the way have you got a link to the card you mentioned and did you get caught for tax?

silent, would also be interested to know if you got stung by customs when using shopthestates and are they trustyworthy/reliable enough?

Yeah i wish they sell cards over here in europe. I've heard of many happy customers using the stepup program and the lifetime warranty only sweetens the deal.

nope, all went fine. declare package as 50$ value (shopthestates do that for you) and cross fingers
in all the years and hundrets of parcels from us and canada, I paid tax only once - on two retaile boxed maxtors from staples. (and of course when I used ups/fedex but that is given). usps ems or normal airmail for me. i guess I'm lucky :) and yes all the postman around know me well
used shopthestates for dozen+ high priced items including shoes and my g.skill memory and opteron among other things
with newegg I used same address as my us shipping address for billing adress and it went through somehow, on 3 different orders :)
btw, cheapest 7800gt on newegg is 299$ right now, they must have upped the price recently as last week it was 270 IIRC

ah well, i found with usps they are usually better when it comes to avoiding any kind of tax.

@silent so how much total cost would the same card be for you using shopthestates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭heffo9

well the cost breaksdown like this
the card was $326.99, add $45 for shipping and handling=$371.99,
    then convert into euros =€313.730 + €74 tax = €387.73

if i was to go with silents approach i would imagine it would cost something like €313.73 if you where evading the tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭Dingatron

Looks like I'll get hit for the tax as well so. Still not a bad price for the card though when you look at the bench marks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭Wolverine_1999

Got the exact same card from Germany for €330.. Plus, no need to worry about VAT or customs since coming from within EU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭heffo9

thats great, maybe you could post a link, so other people can buy it if they wish to do so.
