The 6800 series are a quality card. I have the 6800GT myself. Lovely piece of kit. If you intend even considering linux, there's no contest. Otherwise you're down to looking at benchmarks v's cost really. They should be fairly close cards, but I think the 6800GS will pip the X800XL in most benchmarks (though it is ever so slightly more expensive).

Don't forget to take the psp out of your sig. :D

edit: Just a personal thing....I wouldn't buy either card in AGP format. I'd wait until you're doing a full upgrade. If you need some extra graphics beef in the mean-time, depending on what you already have, I'd get a 128MB 6600GT. Just me though.

Giving advice is not my strong point but I have just finished reading an article on pc zone about which graphics cards to buy at the moment.

They are recomending the radeon x800gto from www.gecube.com for 115 sterling and they feel it can out preform the 6800gt at higher detail levels .

edit: had I looked more closely I would have seen that it was for agp you were looking ......sorry .

That's what i was thinking tbh...that XFX is suppossed to be oc'ed to near enough 6800GT levels which considering the price is a steal.

Only thing is the 6800gs only has 12 pipes versus the radeons 16....not sure if that makes a huge diff but i really don't know enough of this generations technology.

Oops...i had quite forgotten that was there:)

According to here the AGP version of the 6800GS can have the extra pipelines and vertex shaders unlocked. I've a plain 6800 and it worked very well, but it's not guarenteed to work and you shouldn't buy one because of it, but if you do get one and it does work then it's a nice bonus. Details on how to do it should be on the Rivatuner forum at Guru3d

It's my understanding that the X800GTO is a competitor for the 6600GT series of cards. I don't think it can out perform a 6800GT.
