I would have thought that since the same contractors are being used - ASCON, etc..... that if they finished on the Kilcock-Kinnegad stretch of motorway early that the contractors would move on to the next stretch straight away but here is the response I got from the NRA.

There is no change as yet in the indicated completion date, 30th Nov 2007. You may not be aware that that the M4 KEK and the other schemes referred to are seperate contracts and that one finishing early has no effect on the other.
In relation to Phase 2 Kilbeggan to Athlone the date for receipt of tenders has been extended to 16th Jan 2006. We hope to maintain the same award date.

I know that many of the same contractors are being used on the next stretch of motorway but the NRA still maintain that the next stretch of motorway will not be completed early.

They're not the same contractors. The contractors on the M4 were Westroute, a joint venture between SIAC (South of Ireland Asphalt Company) and Ferrovial, a Spanish Company.

'Tisn't going to be a motorway, more's the pity.

I was talking about contracted labour\skills as opposed to contracting companies.

So why did you say 'ASCON, etc.'? How do you know there is any overlap with the 'contracted labour\skills' between the two?

Because I was dining out with a relation on Saturday evening who's friend is working on the project.

In fairness the due completion dates seem a bit lax anyways.

But it makes the contractor and NRA look good when they come in early.
