I need an in car adapter for my partners MP3 (creative zen 20 gig). Her car sterio doesn't have a cassette and a guy in Dixons said the radio tuner type are illegal! Is this so, if not any idea where i could get one this close to xmas in Dublin.

you could try ordering online from somewhere that uses a next day delivery service like DHL or UPS or FEDEX. But you need to do it quickly. You can't buy these in Ireland as far as I know. The other option is certain car stereos can have direct links to auxillary audio sources. But I'm not sure how you would find out if you can do that or not.
