He's unbelievably fast but his music, what I've heard of it at least, sucks balls.

Still... you can't knock his playing :v:

Agree with the doc. Not a great song but his playing is scary

Yeah, I've seen that ages ago. He's got some amazing technique, but his music really lacks. Michael Angelo is faster though, and actually writes some better music aswell tbh.

It's about time Chris Poland and Marty Friedman put a band together. That would kick all kinds of ass :v:

"I can play melodically, I just don't want to"

He actually said (something very similar to) that!

Its very bland. Lacks fire and attitude IMO

    "Berklee Robot".

    ditto.
i turned it off after 10 seconds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭cormhag

thats the funniest music ive ever heard. since Batio that is. . .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Bland is definetly the way to describe him. Seeing as I'm a sucker for getting any lessons I can get my hands on these days, I nabbed some lessons of his, and boy were they the most insanely dull things I've ever tackled.

No-one listens to me as it is. :p

Infact to get that good, you'd probably want to be doing nothing else but playing the uitar. Not really a great life TBH

To make a living doing what you've got a passion for would be what I'd consider a great life TBH.

i would still rather petrucci anyday because no matter what style he plays you really believe him. Every note he plays really is whats suppose to be there and if its jazz or blues or pure metal he nails it. that guy is just fast, no real depth at all

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Aye, there are plenty of fast players, but few who are tasteful with it.

I accept that, but come on, there's more to life than guitar

more to life than guitar but not much more to life than your passion surely?

Jesus how can u have anything bad to say about that video, it is quite phenomenal. Let's respect and not begrudge (in typical irish male guitarist fashion ;) )

But there ain't no accountin for taste I guess..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

now i would be the first to say the man is technically a genius in his speed and accuracy! i just wouldnt like to be in his position in the sense that he doesnt really have much taste or great phrasing by the sounds of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭johnwoods

I know what you guys mean! I seen him play tho and he does put some soul into it. He definately thinks he's soulful. Either way Imagine your dad being able to play like that, hehe could learn alot from him, But I dont think he can match up to the melody writing of someone even like slash.

love it or hate it i think that this...

is a far superior piece of showmanship!

i think he uses every technique under the sun!!

    Nice one.
I'm sure this isn't an original observation but ol' Steve must have the longest fingers ever - even longer than Jimi's.

I'd much rather listen to Steve's finely-honed 'smooth jazz' than some mindless masturbatory shredding.

He does have that strange 'guitar mime' thing going, tho :)

The reason his JEM guitars have such a deep cutaway is because he has massive hands :D

(Yeah, I'm a massive Vai fan. So sue me :p)
