    I will probably buy off the shelf, but have built a couple before so am open to suggestion. However, I am out of the loop and don't know what's hot/cutting edge/good value ATM. I want a TOP gaming machine, can spend 1.5 to 2k.

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ or higher (s.939)
    Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
    1GB RAM (Corsair, OCZ)
    2x GeForce 7800GTX 256MB
    DVD±RW burner, HDD, case etc...

    You can get a

    AMD Ath64 3800+
    Gigabyte mobo
    2GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
    1x Geforce as above
    dvd, etc etc...

    for bout 1600 on komplett...me's thinking about that one...[:D]
