    Is it just me or...

for the last week or so when I switch to the Discovery channels they go into 4:3 format. I can change them to 16:9 alright but thats only while viewing. All other channels are ok - if I go from Discovery to the epg I go back to widescreen.

The digibox is set for 16:9 output..

Discovery doesn't broadcast in widescreen, does it?

Have you been stretching the 4:3 image? Or zooming in?

No, I don't think Discovery broadcasts in Widescreen, at least I've never noticed it if it does!

Lots of channels never have widescreen. It makes the picture distorted if you force it.

    Your TV should chaneg.

For me it has always stretched to fill the screen (autochanged to wide) just like all other channels. Now the Discoveries stay sitting happily in the middle of the screen looking stupid !

That's exactly as it should be on a widescreen TV. It's worth getting used to the black bars on either side, as you'll then be seeing all of the broadcast picture in the correct aspect ratio without it being stretched, distorted or chopped.

Hopefully it won't be too long before they go widescreen for real.

Fair enough... but I've obviously got used to the distortion over the years ;-) and my point is more a case of how these channels dont autostretch any more.

    Thanks for the help.

Oh , and welcome to Watty - I've lurked in this forum a lot (in fact I remember the days when it was hosted outside of boards) and he has always been a knowledgeable contributor. Then again there's a load of them on this board !
