Hoping you will be able to help me out with a little something.. I am trying to put together an album of photos for a present, have all the photos in digital format, most are quite large.

Can you recommend a quick and EASY programme to resize the photos?! It's just that I could try cropping them in photoshop, but it is very time consuming.. over 200 photos..

oh and when resizing, if I check constrain proportions.. the measurements aren't exactly right so.. to have them 6 x 4 or 7 x 5 will they be 'squished' when printed in the shop?! if I don't click constrain proportions they just seem to be getting distorted. Way around this?

    Ideas?! Thanks :D

    Try the Gimp

    http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Lite_Quickies/

You can download it free and it should tell you how to resize your photos.

They wont be squished in the printers. I would imagine you can select a size to crop to in the gimp too, but i havent used it.

    Try this tutorial though

    Or...

    Use Photoshop batch processing.

If all the images are in the one file, open photoshop, go to file, batch process, and follow the instructions there. Just remember to save them all in a different file to stop confusion! All you have to do is enter the size you want them to be, and Photoshop does the rest.

    :)

Edit: Best way to avoid squishing is to choose a regular size, for example, 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768 (Or the nearest you can get to these!)

    DON'T RESIZE THEM

if you are bringing them to a photolab to get printed, leave them in the highest size possible. you can crop them to fit the differeent proportions that 6x4 and 7x5 have

but don't make them smaller or the quality will be affected when they get printed

(note: this advice from someone who has worked with photolabs for the past 5 years)

I agree with dotorg, and I'd reccomend Fuji for your printing. I brought a batch of prints I wanted done to Liffey valley at the weekend, i used the machine at booths and was dissapointed with the results, dirt, Booths don't do larger than 8x10 prints in store so I tried the Fuji store. They print up to 16x20 from the card machine so you can resize or crop anything and see what you are getting, worth a look.
