We've seen it come very far, from your old CPS1 boards, finally even getting to CPS2, your NES, SNES, GBA, MEGA DRIVE, N64 and even the PS. We've seen it on other platforms, handhelds and on other consoles, but with the current recent gen, has it become far to complex to emulate ?
Sure they said DreamCast wasnt possible but they got it eventually, but still far from perfection, i dont think we will ever see PS2 emu and they said XBOX wouldnt be too hard since it so similar to windows but i dont see that happening either, but sure console emulation isnt the point, its the arcade, NAOMI boards are said to be similar to Dreamcast but apparently the encryption is too complex, without naomi we wont see Marvel vs capcom 2 or Snk vs Capcom 2 etc.
CP3 sys sounds as dated as the CPS2, im pretty sure its still not emulated [although the new MAME32 has CP3 game names in the list?] - Street Fighter III is dating back to 1997, thats nearly 9 years.
The Atomiswave System [Rumble Fish, Dolphin Blue, Demolition Fish, Guilty Gear X Series, KOF neowave, new Samurai shodown etc etc ] will never be emulated, for one its too expensive and another its even worse than NAMOI to decrypt, despite still releasing current titles [KOF XI, Metal Slug 6, Neogeo Battle Colliseume, Rumble Fish 2, Dolphine Blue 2] it was released 3 years ago.
So no ones expecting miracles, but theres been a decline in the progress, we here will never see proper arcade systems and with the DC dead, we dont get to see arcade ports either, i just want to play Dolphin Blue :(

Dolphin Blues like metal slug, BUT BETTER !

some info on whats on atomiswave http://sega-amusements.co.uk/sammy/coin-op/atomiswave.html

there are discussion of emulation killing the arcade scene but look at playmore, it is killing itself but fair play to sammy for pulling it out of water.

Who knows? :) My interest in the emulation is based around the machines I had when I was younger - eg the 8-bit Vic-20, C64 and 16-bit Amiga. These are almost perfect now. Regarding the latest machines you would think it would take more and more resources to emulate the latest consoles with their custom chips. Emulating the Amiga to normal speed was tricky until the last few years but some of consoles will be conquered yet! Just will take awhile.
