was just wondering what everybody elses experiences are of Kopperburg cider? id never even heard of the stuff until they starting selling it in the college bar in NUIG & since that everybody has gone crazy for the stuff. Its quite expensive, 5.50 a pint, but its 7% volume & has terrible side effects! Far too easy to drink, but its lovely!

I'd take it over Bulmers any day.

There's pear and mixed fruit Kopperburg (sp?). The mixed fruit tastes like Ribena, and whenever I have it, everything else tastes way too heavy after it. Very nice drink.

The pear cider (I think it's lower volume) is good too, but I prefer the mixed fruit.

Both are way nicer than Bulmers, IMO.

yeah they have been selling that here in dundalk for the beerkeeper for about a year now...it is absolute rocket fuel i know!!!
they recently hiked the price from e5 a bottle to i think 8/8.50 a bottle cos so many people were coming drinking three or four bottles and making a fool of themselves

They have 3 types that I've tried.

Mixed Fruits: 7% - as stated, beautiful. When in employment, this was the drink of choice!
    Pear: 4/5% Beautiful.
Apple: 4/5% The weakest of the 3, but probably the nicest apple cider ever! ;)

Its not bad but €5.50 in the college bar in NUIG is a total rip off.

I *think* it's €4.70 in the Brog in Cork for the pear stuff.

The mixed berry one could be nice mixed with beer...
note to self: prepare for non-surgical removal of stomach lining...

I checked out the other thread, and it mentioned that it was €1 a can for the pear cider in Whelan's off-licence on Camden Street. It's a bit of a trek for me, so I was just hoping someone on here could tell me if this offer is still on? Or if not, where else (preferably out my way - the outskirts of the southside) sells it at a reasonable price (I'm a student :(). Had a few bottles of it over the Christmas and it goes down a treat. Would be nice to get a few for New Years. Thanks in advance.

I was in the Foggy Dew the other day with the gf and we spotted this stuff and I convinced her to give it a try, I wanted a taste too. The taste was very nice, I was very impressed with the subtlety of it and we both commented on how it was almost like a flavoured fizzy water.....then I read the ingredients label....I still have it here now:

INGREDIENTS: CARBONATED WATER, PEARWINE, PEARJUICE, SUGAR, FLAVOURS, ACID; CITRIC ACID, PRESERVATIVE E202.

So basically it is a flavoured water, I would dispute that it should even be allowed to be called cider, as it is effectively a mixdrink.

I was extremely disappointed when I read the label as it was cool to think that someone had actually brewed this stuff.....but in the pursuit of real alcohol I will be giving this stuff a miss in the future.

If its 5-7% (depending on variety), then its real enough alcohol for me. :)

ya i agree that 5.50 is way too expensive especially in a college bar of all places, but thats why most NUIG students drink fosters, cheapest thing in the bar at only 2euro a pint! Pity it tastes like muck!

I didnt see any cans when I was in there on Saturday, but they were selling bottles (maybe around a pint worth?) for about €2.50.

daiixi - Thanks very much for the info. Pity they don't have cans, as they'd probably be a bit cheaper than the bottles. €2.50 for a pint bottle... might splash out on a few for after the exams. Thanks again.

cairo_parisian - Could you give me the name of any of these offos that you've seen sell cans of the stuff, seeing as how Whelans doesn't seem like the best bet anymore. Cheers.

For the moment it looks like I'll be sticking to my St. Bernard beer - it's actually pretty good considering it's 89c a can. It's easy to drink and has quite a nice taste.

Oh and by the way for anyone interested, Rolling Rock €18 for 20 330ml bottles in Tesco. Not bad. I'm a fan of it ever since a summer I spent in America :) .

Actually, i read the previous thread. Whelan's were never selling cans at 1 euro.

Ah but they where awhile ago. They ran out fairly fast and where slow to restock from storage. Along with the fact they mixed them in a large wooden bucket with hidious Tuborg they where quite hard to spot.

Scince it's gotten really popular I hope they'll start selling the strawberry flavoured one. mmmmmm.
