Youve networked the two computers but have you set up ICS correctly. Have a look at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_xp for the correct methodology.

And do you have any Personal Firewalls installed??

Have you enabled "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" as per http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prcg_cnd_xham.asp

And what IP address and subnet mask has ICS assigned to the host computer?

I have found Twiga's RDU to be a useful adjunct to ICS see http://www.twiga.ltd.uk/rdu.asp for details.

afaik ICS can only be installed on ONE of the 2 machines if you want to share.

a few services (right click my comp and manage ) need to be turned on to use ICS - not sure which they are but im sure you could find them if you went looking on google

i would suggest uninstalling ics on both computers and reinstalling it on one ( at least from memory i think it's only one ) of the pc's -- i remember that ics is a bit sensitive and at least one of the tutorials i used suggesting uninstalling and reinstalling to get it working correctly

ps the annoyances site was the site i used and it worked correctly for me using a crossover cable XP(dialup) and 98

    http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/

Excellent and free Proxy Server, easy to setup and secure. Install this on the pc you have connected to the net, set this machine's IP as the proxy server address (The 2 port addresses you need are shown clearly in the help/setup guide) on the other and you're done.Takes all of 2 mins.

I know you probably did already, but does the ICS "wizard" thing in XP not do the job? It did for me (although I went back later and changed the IP addresses to suit myself).

I prefer NAT as offered by ICS than Proxy servers; much easier to deal with.

A "proper" option might be to set up something like smoothwall on an old low powered computer.
