Ok, this may be old news or made up, But I heard that the PS3's Boomerang Shaped controller is a fake and the real one is to be released on January 6. I have no idea why someone would say this. Sounds very made up to me. Any ideas? Has anyone else heard of this?

Actually I've been saying that for months ;)

Sony has said it has a "huge surprise" for us during the show in Japan in January/February. I think it's more likely february but jan is possible... let's face it, the boomerang has proven to be useful but they've had enough time to recover from being caught with their pants down by the Rev pad.

I think we'll see a complete revision. More likely since Sony has come out to debunk the practically unheard of rumour to us press peeps ;)

Hmm, I doubt a joypad revision would be classed a HUGE surprise, I would think they're going to announce that the PS3 is launching sooner than originally thought.

Their official line on the release has always been Spring 2006. They reaffirmed that last week because the rumours were that it'd be summer or autumn.

A pad revision is HUGE to them but not to us when you think about it.

well even at e3 phil harrison said the boomerang controller wasn't the final design. i don't think sony will do a wholly-new design, it'll probably still have that same shape to it, but with some new features or something.

also, it'll probably get shown at CES in las vegas in feb. that's probably when ps3 will be shown in playable form too

You're right, but I'm not sure about keeping the shape. I've seen the videos about how to hold it, but they're nothing to sway the Rev peeps. I reckon with this much time it'll have either amazing new features or it'll not change at all.

saw the how to hold it video too, and since then i've been thinking that it might not bee so bad.

You're right there 4X, but I also have a feeling they were made by Sony fanboi's unwilling to let go. I'd say we could see somthing new happening with the unveiling. You know how it is with the Revolution controller scare these days.

as long as sony don't churn out some "revolutionary" new controller.

I hope the surprise is a new shaped ps3 cause the current pictures look rank

What difference doesit make what shape the console is?

    Shutup! That's why...

    Wait you're right, that's ridiculous.

    Rot in hell SKYUSER!

i think it looks nice enough. it's a curvy ps2 with a spiderman font.... can't really complain

It's almost identical to the PS2. I want something new like when the PS2 came out it was completely different from the PS1

so if you had super nintendo hardware in a bright new shiney case you'd be happy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,680 ✭✭✭Skyuser

I didn't say that. I want new hardware aswell as new design, not a lazy design like they used.

I hope they don't do something gimmicky like the revolution. That design works for Nintendo because they'll build their first party games around it and they've probably designed it with specific games already in mind(like the N64 controller).

Sony don't need that kind of selling point, they just need to build on PS2, which has a near perfect joypad to begin with. They just need to make slight changes, particularly with the analogue sticks, and I'll be happy. The controller is the reason I've bought PS2 versions of games that look better and load quicker on other consoles, it's the one thing that isn't showing it's age.

I just bought the GC to PS2 pad adaptor instead...

    Oh wellz ;)

Tbh a smaller right ananlog stick would be all they need with wireless of course.

What's the story with it having 7 controllers? That seem an odd number to use.

I reckon they've got 4 ports and then three wireless odd... or maybe 2 ports and 5 wireless. I'd say whatever way it works out they didn't want to risk wireless interference though.

Afaik all 7 can be wireless. i may be wrong though.

In that case my other idea (which I didn't say because I was tentative about being very wrong) might hold true. They probably just chose the highest number of wireless pads before interference occurred. Then set that as a max even with wired pads.

    Also, two telly support... YES!

that's pretty much it. but to add, it's not just for wireless pads. it's for mice/keyboards/headsets/eyetoys/etc.

the "etc." bit could be very interesting indeed
