Help me please

i was wondering if anyone from boards works in the immigration office on the quays...

i was supposed to go to london with my gf and some friends but it turns out that my gf, because she is chinese, will need to get a return visa. we had thought that it would have been ok cos she has an irish student visa and its only across the water but she has been told she will need one....

well the reason i ask for help is because she has tried to get a visa but the queues are too long by the time she gets there in the morning. people start queuing up at about 3am the night before and they only give out a limited number of tickets. people might say that she should just wait there like the rest at that time, but i am very protecting and i dont think it would be safe at that time.

basically what i am asking is if anyone works there, would they be willing to give me a few tickets so we could get visas for her and her friends.
i would be very greatful and a xmas gift would be offered in return;)

i am irish but the rest that are going are chinese... i think about 5 chinese in total

i hope some one can help. we are hoping to go from 27th dec - 30th dec.

Yeah no problem, tell her to come into the office tomorrow(just walk past the queue) and ask for Ross(thats me), if I'm not around then just tell the girl at the front desk that I've kept some tickets for you and she'll give 'em to you.
I'll sort you out with 6 tickets just in case you or your friends need an extra one.

i dont know agent smith, i only found out abut a minute ago. i think embee banned you but I just dont know for sure.

dont know galway dude, you could try downloading mIRC or something like that if the java applet doesnt work. the link to the chatroom is somewhere on this thread.

i don't know why anyone else hasn't said this but if this is such a major issue (and it sounds like it is to you) why don't you go with your girlfriend at 3 in the morning instead of looking to skip the queue - why should you be allowed to skip when others are forced to queue in the cold all night?

and imo it sounds like rb is full of it

i work nights hifts and have college during the day.... i am a full time student. any time off i use to sleep and to let my back rest. i have an on going back problem from work, but need to work to pay for everything... if i take a night off work i dont get paid and if i go on a night that i am off then i am losing what little sleep time i can get.

i am not looking for pity, this is my life, i chose it and i live it. i am just asking for a favour from fellow board members

and if you are wondering why i am not sleeping right now its cos college is a bitch and collehe homework is worse than work... in other words i am doing college work

if you are in full time work yo uare entitled to a certain number of holidays. the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 entitles you to holidays. take a holiday and go with your girlfriend.

nope i am in part time work but i have enough time off over the holidays to go from the 27th - the 30th so thats why i am looking for help for my gf. i am fine cos i am irish but its too hard for her to get a visa cos the queues. the office for return visas opens at 8am and closes at 12pm, thats only 4 hours. as far as i know they only give out a small number of tickets, thats why the queues start so early. its ridiculous cos the office is open till 10pm, i dont know why that part closes so early.
she goes to college and works also, so she has it tough enough. she has to pay off a 4000 euro loan for college fees when her class mates only had to pay 85 for the same course. this is why i am trying to get this done for her.

look, you would have been better off posting this in Personal Issues there are fewer dickheads roaming around it, and the ones that are there get dealt with fairly sharpish.

as for holidays for part time workers

Under the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997, a part-time worker's annual leave entitlement is 8% of the hours worked in a leave year, subject to a maximum of 4 working weeks annual leave. Read more about annual leave and public holidays in Ireland here.

I know that you might feel iffy about leaving your friend alone at that hour of the night in town, but you are indeed entitled to holidays, despite the fact that you are part time.

you will only have to take one day off anyway. the system is ****ed up but for now one has to just grin and bare it i am afraid.

TBH, Original Poster, If you are so worried about it being a dangerous time for her, why don't you go and sit with her in the Queue. I find it hard to believe that the queue is that long. I'm sure if you were to start waiting at 6am or 7 am you'd be fairly close to the front... at least to get in by lunch time.

I don't blame rb_ie for his reply, I was tempted to do the same.... but I didn't (So don't ban me)

If you really want to go to London, put the effort in and queue. If you don't, cancel the flights.

yes i relaize what i am asking people to do, but trust me it is always busy from that time on(about 3am) cos there are so many trying to go home or travel also they have to queue cos only a limited number of tickets are given out. you cant just walk in and take a ticket and sit down and wait.

another thing is that some people take more than 1 ticket which is also cheating and gives others less of a chance of getting in.

at this stage it doesnt seem like i am going to get anywhere. ill see if i can call in sick to work and go it with her.

on a last note, rb was a bit of a donkey but its all in fun so no harm done.

but santa is still gonna give you a bag of coal...
