Anyone know the cheapest place to get one of these in Dublin or online ? The price dif online compared to shops doesnt seem to be much...only about 20 or 30 euro. If thats the case I'll just end up buying it in the shops.

    Thanks

I have seen it for about 280-290 on ebay, but it is not much of a saving, I would pay the extra for it in town. I know you were getting the shure earphones, the iaudio comes with very good earphones too, one of the 2 companies, cowon and iaudio, specialise in earphones (not sure which). But if I was you I would keep the iaudo earphones sealed and sell them without using them at all.

Thanks for the tip! I hope I havent made a mistake getting the shure headphones then. Maybe I could have just kept them. Its around 360 in city centre I think....unless you have seen it cheaper ?

www.mx2.co.uk is the cheapest I have found online without risking US purchase (tax/import duties etc).

360 euro + shipping...youch. Would have thought it would be available cheaper.

    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/basket.cgi

    390 from peats.

well I searched around to find the cheapest price for the 60GB and bar the states mx2.co.uk was the cheapest I could find, bought one yesterday and it was despatched today.
Seeing as you live in Dublin and the saving is only €30 you might be as well off just to drop in and buy one and maybe bargain for a free case or something if you're paying in cash.

you can do that...in shops like peats ?

I've never bought anything Peats so personally I don't know about them but yeah they have a good profit margin on a product like that so i'm sure an expectation to get some sort of reduction wouldn't be unreasonable.

Always ask for something extra!! I even do it when I buy online, send them an email asking for their best deal and what they can throw in for free;) Peats are just the one shop, no franchise so you'd be much more likely to get a discount there than the likes of Dixons etc, just walk in and say you want to buy the iAudio, but it's X amount cheaper on mx2.co.uk including delivery, what can you do for me? Almost certain you'll get something thrown in:) Don't forget that the prices on peats are Ex Vat unless stated and the prices on mx are including delivery. Not too sure which your after so don't know the exact price difference.

I dont know if i would have the nerve to ask for something extra :)

Im looking for the 30gb L model. I rang peats, its 389 euro.

Aye, €30 in the difference isn't much to be able to bring it back if anything happens and to just walk in and buy it, I reckon you should just say, I can get it for €360 from mx2.co.uk delivered, "can you throw in a case" or "how does €400 with a remote sound?" They should expect to be haggled with. You can't do it somewhere like Argos or Tesco but somewhere like Peats should have no problem, take tool shops for example, I was in on a few weeks ago asking about a lathe for €350 and another guy was with me who was interested, I was asking what kind of deal we'd get if the two of us bought one together, what could you throw in etc, he said he couldn't have dropped the price on that particular thing but if we got something else he'd do a deal, went to another shop asking about the same lathe which was priced higher there but he was willing to come down and match their offer. Ended up getting another one in another place in Kilcock, he knocked 10% off this and that, threw in freebies here and there too. Try your luck, it's to be expected and if they aren't used to that kind of thing, then that's just down to the fact of why prices are so expensive in Ireland, because people are willing to pay them. I'll go in for you and we can split the savings:D

certainly not! they were one of my best buys, well worth the price. The sound quality is one thing, the comfort and sound isolation were the real bonus I didnt think I would appreciate as much as I do. I cycle and have no wind whistling in my ears. Also great for drowning out traffic and nattering people on buses. Just remember to look both ways!

ps the shures are €150 in peats!

this ebay has them, postage is probably about $40 (just estimating, usually I get quoted that for things that size). Using paypal vouchers that would end up about €300 delivered. He says he has good feedback internationally, I would imagine he does something to avoid the vat. still may not be worth the risk.

I wont be getting mine until after the weekend. You can be my ginny pig, go forth and haggle, boy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Why don't the two of you go in together? More haggling power!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,153 ✭✭✭ronano

    The Quick:

The Cowen Iaudio x5l is displayed as being 349 euro but rings up as 339 euro the guy said it was a weekend offer, the x5 is still 329 euro

    Anyhow

I went in tried haggling but he was having none of it maybe due to the ten euro reduction. I'm a happy camper i was in peats yesterday at about 1.30 since then they've replaced x5 on display to x5l and they say 8 x5's have been sold meaning none in stock(seems kinda dodgy to me tbh,i had asked yesterday how many were left in stock and all 8 are gone!)

    anyhow yes,i'm sorry cormie :D

So they are all gone and you got it for 350 ? I thought they were 389 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,153 ✭✭✭ronano

329 euro x5 is out of stock

x5l displayed as 349 euro but rings as 339 euro which is what you pay

as for the 389 i dunno but an extra 50 euro for another 21 hours battery life seems kinda steep

    ok few probs

    1) When i turn it on i hear what i can only describe as a whir,it reminds me slightly of a dodgy pc booting up.
    2) If i continously fast forward/choose different songs in quick succession i hear a clunk(again bad pc memories!)
    3) There's a 3 second wait before a song plays, the timer is on the screen during the wait
    4) I converted a few episodes of family guy, scrubs, american dad and american dad/some episodes of scrubs froze

I only bought this on Thursday and i'm wondering am i paranoid,is this all to be expected, should i return it for a new one? i bought it in peats and while its a new product and what not i know how peats are!

Hmm.. I dont know what you are talking about. You said the x5L is 339 euro. The L stands for extra long battery life. So how are you paying an extra 50 euro for the longer battery...

is the one you got a 20gb model ? Im talking about the 30gb model.
