Interesting how we are gradually been moved towards the idea of power cuts due to shortages, are they trying to prepare us (softly-softly) so that it won't be a shock if it happens ????

Fresh concerns and revelations over national electricity supply

Ireland's electricity system is suffering an increasing number of "amber alerts", it has been revealed. For 2005 to date, the total number stands at 50 - twice that experienced in the same period last year. This data, described as originating within the industry, also reveals that the system reached a "red alert" level last August. This means that reserves had fallen below 400 megawatts, the equivalent of one large gas-fired station. Amidst rising concern about the future adequacy of Ireland's energy supply infrastructure, a report from ESB National Grid, published later in the week, warned that there could be shortages this winter, and that stations will have to operate more efficiently to prevent such problems becoming regular occurrences. It seems that multiple generation targets have been missed in recent times, and that there may be insufficient energy available in future years if plants are not kept on-line and available; we will also be dependent on the scheduled completion of a number of ongoing projects, the report said.

ARRRGH feck em all in denial! Stations will have to operate more efficiently?!?! How about we cut down on our electricity usage. For ****s sake most people on this board leave their computers on all day, we WASTE so much and they're trying to point the finger at the electricity stations!

    What a pile of crap
