Sky install overcharge

    Hi all,

My brother in law just went through the normal Sky channels for an install. The guys came out and put the dish on the chimney (that's a whole other discussion!).

The real issue is that they then asked for €25 to cover the install. The brother didn't really query them too much on this. They said something about not being connected to Sky... Only afterwards when I heard the story did I suggest something was amiss.

The brother has called Sky and they are investigating, but the installers didn't put the 25 on the receipt.

Now, I would encourage people to go to an independent installer and maybe pay a little more, but in this case if the person goes directly to Sky, it's very unfair after the install is done to demand extra money. Is this common practice?

    Ix.

    He got off lightly!

In the UK, the rip-off would've been at least £30.

    Amateurs!

And they would have sent their mates round the next day to fix the damaged roof tiles for £1000 + VAT.

Well, a free install only covers what Sky call "standard installation" which really doesn't have any strict guidelines. Though, basically, if the job's not gonna be handy finished in under 45mins, then they charge extra.

That said, last time I was speaking to the Sky rep, he said that you should be able to have the system installed in about half an hour! For me to do this would mean a very messy install in a lot of cases! I'd be lucky to complete it in 45 mins, never mind 30 mins!
