Am i Entitled to Bonus?

    Hi all,

The annual bonus is out today in the company where i work and i have been informed that i am not entitled to my percentage because i am a part-time employee. I began work with the company in mid-September and i informed them that i would be going to Australia in March. Everyone was ok with that. There was no mention of a bonus at the time but i enquired about 2 weeks ago as to whether i would be entitled to 1/3 of it as i had worked 4 months. It would be worth about €800 to me!

Today i was told im a part-time worker so not extra money for me. If im not entitled to it then im not fair enough, but no harm in asking!

A part-time employees in Ireland is defined by law as "an employee whose normal hours of work are less than the normal hours of work of an employee who is a comparable employee in relation to him or her". But i work 39hours a week, the same as everyone else in the company

If anyone knows, it would be great.

    Thanks

they probably mean that you haven't been there for a full year, rather than part-time

what does it say in your contract?

eh, you dont just "resume employment".
Get yourself a contract ASAP or else you're technically not entitled to anything.
(you are, however, entitled to a contract within 2 months of starting employment).
I think you better learn some of your basic employment rights before you get bitten big time.

Yep, without a contract, you're not entitled to anything.

i joined a company in mid October this year. I am full-time/permanent and have a contract. I was told a few weeks back that I wouldn't be entitled to the annual bonus (appx. €1,250) as I had only been here a few weeks (apparantly their criteria involves you being an employee at March of the said year at the latest).

Anyway, my point is, I didn't expect to get anything so i'm cool with that. It's a profit share bonus scheme they run so why should I share the profits of that year if I wasn't there to help earn them. Seems fair to me.

I agree. Unless you've done a full year and there hasn't been any major issues then you shouldn't be expecting a bonus imho. I've heard of the odd person being given something after 6 months work but I think that's rare enough.

Been with my company for 7 years, never got a bonus and never will. 55 employess, only 2 or 3 of the boss's cronies get anything... no wonder he can afford to spend 18k on a week in Africa over the christmas. Busted my balls over the years for him too...

Don't mean to hijack the orignal post, if you do get a bonus enjoy it... and think of me :)

You sir should get a new job.

I wont get anything but Im only working there about 4-5 weeks.
However some guy told me that he should be getting a 10% bonus in the next few weeks. He has only been working there about 3-4 months.

    So it varies alot.

Got to get myself an improved contract! :)
