i'd imagine you could get one with 2.0 but i think i remember someone saying around here before that there somehow a way to tell what firmware a psp will be from looking at the box.

cool im sure everyones knows y i want a 2.0 psp if anyone knows what Cremo is talking about by knowing by looking at the box could ya let us know:D

you could also ask say the staff at the store where you're buying the psp.

ask them when the shipment came in, if it's fairly recent it will be 2.5 otherwise 2.0

this was one of the reasons i bought my psp from japan i had 1.5, but my silly brother bought GTA and upgraded to 2.0 but i'm not arsed downgrading it as i hardly use my psp.

Slightly off topic, but I`m about to buy a PSP and was just wondering can I rip my dvds to my hard-drive with a standard dvd drive on my laptop. For some reason I`ve gotten it into my head that I need a dvd re-writer to do this but the more I think about it the more I think all I need is a software application.

software is all you need... and a drive that is able to READ dvd's, not write to them :)

also, some movement in homebrew now. "someone" found an exploit that may allow you to run homebrew apps on the newest firmware thanks to the GTA game save ;)

There is a code on the outside of the box. Here is a guide on determining the firmware.

Are you sure cos wasnt it 2.6 that was released the 29th of November?

All giga packs are in 2.0 versions in ireland while the value packs are 2.1.

Ther is software out freely available that will allow you to downgrade it and downgrading does not dmg your psp in any way.

There is a downgrader out for every version of psp so no worries guys =D

I dont think anything above 2.0 is downgradable, at least not from the sites I've seen?

Note that the PSP Giga-Packs are the unknown, because they are Sony’s latest PSP bundle, they will potentially be either 2.00, 2.01, and maybe 2.50. (because of the holidays and more volume being produced, Sony will be loading their latest firmware onto the newer PSPs.)"

    =D

Not to scare-monger but anything that writes to your flash is potentially dangerous even sony updates carry a risk. That's why you cannot update with less than 50% battery and must have the ac adapter plugged in.

I have been hearing peeps saying that there is universal downgraders. Perhaps not

But software is o nthe way super fast, before crimbo there sohuld be a downgrader out.

Not before xmas for 2.01, 2.5 and 2.6. They've only just got the Hello world to work through edison carters cheat device.

it's just a line hackers use to prove that they can get at least that little bit of code to run on a PSP....

"ex" nerd? you don't go typing java into forums and claim to be an "ex" nerd, especially when you make the claim in what would be comments in a java compiler :o

Just bought a PSP and I'm a bit miffed that it's version 2.01. Think if i brought it back tomorrow and asked for a PSP with 2.0 firmware they'd do that for me? :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Why bother, unless your planning on pirating or playing free crap which is a toss up on if its a virus or not (f you dont know where to get it). TBH just installed 2.6 and I'm well impressed with it. RSS feeds to streaming video/MP3s is the win.

Seriously, its like crying because your latest PC you bought doesn't have windows 98

IMO its more like your new pc is drm'd to sh!te and you can't install anything only first party software, meaning you don't get the most from your new machine. Points of view tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,260 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Exactly and there are third party programs to stream mp3 and view RSS feeds anyways. I'm looking forward to playing GBA games on my PSP :P

My PSP came with 2.01, no emulation for me :(
