Dell Inspiron 1000

    Hi All, I have a mates Inspiron 1000 that he got off a relation of his that wasnt using it (So prob not used for a while). The problem is when the battery is in it wont get past the Bios screen take the battery out and it boots not problem, Put the battery in when windows is booted, and it changes from AC to Battery Charging status no problem, the battery does not charge or look like charging so.. just wondering if anyone has had this problem, Im guessing its the battery but i dont want to go looking for a battery till i know its the problem, Also trying to rule out bios problems

    Cannot rule out MBX issue .. There's a BIOS update on the Dell website - try applying that.

    Tried that and guess what you cant do a Bios update with the battery out nor can you do it when the battery is < 30% charged, figures! Cant charge the battery so, what next

    Can you not put the battery in while it's off and charge it from the mains?

    From your post I got that you tried charging it while it was turned on... I could be wrong though

    Doesnt Seem to make any difference it doenst charge! or at least the laptop doent say so!

    there should be a battery recalibration thingy in the BIOS, try that.

    Tried that also! Think ill look the ebay route for a battery!
