Exactly. Again, those are pictures (and even at that, average ones) not photographs.
Granted, take a while to get used to the camera, but even at that only post your best and experimental ones up here. :)

I know, been stuck indoors since I got it. Tomorro or over the weekend I'll have to get some better stuff. Since bikes and lenses don't make extremely interesting subjects

They are just normal photos with fancy focus. As DotOrg said, go out and take some pics. They are nice and crisp etc.. Good cam

I accept all criticisms, they are just pics. But hey, gimme a chance lads, it's my first day with the cam. I'm still getting accustomed to all the features and prob will be for a while. Really I just posted them for fun, not to impress but I accept that anything posted is subject to criticism so it's always good to get feedback. Thanks

OK, the fist one is better than the second. You got the focus excellent. Did u use manual or auto focus? You definitely have potential.

the second one(the lens) was prob the first shot I actually took, the bike was about 2 hrs of mistakes later. I used auto on aperture priority mode. I just liked the colours and the DOF but it's not difficult as I'm sure you know to take that shot. It was hand held tho, no tripod yet

You dont need a tripod really at the moment, esspecially with good lighitng like that. Try and get some more pics, look up google etc for ideas. :)

When I get a new cam (especially with digital :D ) I just snap away so I'm used to the camera...no point in missing a shot 'cos you're wondering which way to push the button for manual focus!

    Keep it up!

Just out of intrest, what is the file size(s) for an 8MP image? Im trying to decide about getting 1GB or 2GB card. how do they work with RAW/JPEG?

Im dying for mine to arrive, Ive the weekend off, but I bet it wont be here till mon/tues, when im working till after xmas.....

conorgriff, I think we may start a thread so we dont annoy everyone on this board with our first few hundred "pictures"....:D

    It's a lovely camera, isn't it?
However, I must ask.. how did you get a photo of the lens? Get two lenses or summat? If so, do tell us of them.

[EDIT: I get about 2-4 megs for each picture, that's on the largest setting it gives, JPEG format]

    raw files are about 6-8MB

    i use 2GB & 1Gb sandisk cards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭conorgriff

    RabbitInLights:
For a 1GB you'll get around 270 pics in jpeg format on highest quality setting
If you wanna shoot with RAW + Jpeg you'll only get around 80 shots with the 1 GB
    RAW only - 115 ish

I'd say 1GB is plenty for ya starting off anyway. I got mine on ebay for 90 euro which is way cheaper than the shops and it was a Sandisk Ultra II which is a pretty fast card. Yeah good idea on the new thread for our 'pics' lol.

Fingers crossed for a quick delivery so we can compare mistakes, hehe. I'm interested in seeing shots from your lens actually because I reckon it'll be a sweet little thing.

    PurpleFistMixer:
Yeah I got two lenses, one is obvilusly the one in the shot, which is the EF-S 18-55 f3.5-5.6
It's got a reasonable zoom on it and a relatively nice wideangle end, I've had more immediate success with the other lens which is a 50mm f1.8 and it's a lovely little lens for getting narrow dept of field. The 18-55 I'm not finding as sharp as the 50mm but may just be my unsteady hand due to the smaller aperture.

Aye, I've got the 18-55mm kit lens, and it's got a fairly nice range, I must say, however, that the autofocus is a bit dodgy. I mean, it can be absolutely spot on sometimes, I've got photos of birds in flight in perfect focus (blur is another question, heh, ^^;; ), but lately it's been a shade unreliable. There was a bit of criticism to the kit lens on reviews I read before buying the camera, bit of vignetting at full zoom and such, but hey, it's good enough for now.

The 50mm sounds nice. The f/3.5 is a bit restricting especially for stuff like gig photos, but chances are next lens I'm getting will be something like a 70-200mm. Think the 18mm of the kit lens can do me for wide angle sort of stuff currently.

Yeah, when I bought the cam I was thinking that I'd probably go for a telephoto as the next lens once I got a bit better but now I think I might go for the 10-22 because I think the wideangle shots are really impressive. I'd love to try it. I'd like a zoom too tho, and the 70-200 ya mentioned would effectively be a 125-320 on the 350D so that's some pretty serious range. I put a link up for this already but just in case ya missed it here is a good summary of most of the compatible lenses for the 350D here

Be careful using the 50mm wide open. Its got a VERY small depth of field at 1.8 - think in terms of centimetres! Works best if you go up the scale a little.

conorgriff - Heh, it's odd you want a wide angle and I want a telephoto, 'cause before I got my camera I thought I'd be dead set on getting a wide angle lens, and yet when I got my camera I found myself at 55mm pretty often.
