    ok lads

current setup is a mini dish and a normal sky box with sky world.. Thinking of buying a 2nd box (2nd hand) and installing in other room and fitting a quad lnb which i already have.

Can i get a mirror sub on this new setup , even though i installed it myself.

I know about the need for a phone line. But do i need to wire the 2 boxes up to the sky box or just the mirror one. the original box is more than one year old. I dont want some sky engineer coming and running cable all over the place.

Will drooping the movies cover the cost of a mirror sub. i dont really wanna go for a sky + box just yet.

Not sure if you can get a mirror card on your own. Give Sky a ring and find out (though queues are quite long this month)

Both boxes must be connected to same telephone line, so that Sky can be sure it's not in a relatives house down the road!

A mirror sub currently costs €15. If you've Sky World, dropping the movies mightn't cover the mirror sub costs but should be close.

Just to give you guidance.... when I rang them yesterday morning...

    8:20 - straight away
    8:30 - 10 minute wait.

And yes, both boxes need phone lines.

During the afternoon, you can be waiting up to about 25mins!

I believe you can get a mirror sub on an existing install. But you might need to pester them a bit. But ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE without both phone lines coonected.

its a post turkey plan i was hoping to get away with out wiring up both boxes to the phone. although it should be easy enough to sort it out. what the limit on the number of devices you can have connected off any one phone line.

Good question. I know in the UK they have well publicised REN values on every phone and answer machine etc. I think each UK line is designed to carry devices up to a maximum of 4 REN (1 standard phone is 1REN).

As for ROI though, I think REN isn't an issue so much.

Maybe our resident technowhizz, watty, can answer it better than I!? :)

I don't think this is an issue on Irish lines either.

    Maybe Muck might know too.
