Drum Machine Help

Getting together with another guitarist, a bass player and a singer to see if we can put a covers band together playing straight forward rock tunes. We have no drummer though so we're trying to source information on a Drum Machine to use until we decide to fill the slot.

Any reccommendations? Needs to have decent Drum sounds and would need to be reasonably programmable. Having said that, the less complex an interface the better!

Has anyone any experience/opinions/reccommendations on a lap-based Drum machine?

    Thanks

Argh. Every drum machine I've ever picked up seems over-complex.

NASA studied drum machines to figure out the circuitry necessary to send a man to the moon.

Months later, and I'm still trying to figure out how to make a measure of 7/8 on my Alesis SR-16.

To be fair, I'm trying to program everything and not building measures by tapping the pads.

The Zoom models are very simple and built with the guitarist in mind. The sounds are pretty good and theyre easy to programme.

The BOSS DR5 is old but good if you want other instrument sounds as well. its interface is laid out like a guitar fretboard so its logical for a guitarist.

There is also some great software like DKH that you could use via yr pooter.

The Alesis SR 16 is very popular and also a good choice.
