Laptops and Docking Stations?

My friends mum was given a Dell Latitude Cpi laptop - she has been finding it quite fiddly (newcomer to the IT world). I have managed to get her a docking station, keyboard and mouse (on the way) in the hope she may find it easier this way. All she wants it for is internet access. Do you think this was a waste of time?…

Do you think this was a waste of time? Would she be better off selling all the above and purchasing a home PC? (couldn't justify buying one when she got the laptop for free!) Also, does anyone know where I could purchase a flat panel monitor to complete the package / have one for sale?
