Not quite the number 8 we all remember it skips Dun Laoghaire but taking some quite narrow roads through Monkstown

Journey time is an hour train takes 28 minutes and the service is pretty brutal compared to 8 of yesteryear

Depending on the time of day the journey time is anything from 40mns to 1hr40mns.

The one in each direction 7D which operates via the N11 that was put in when they cancelled the 8 only takes 45-50mns in peak time Dalkey - O'Connell St.

This serevice has apparently been introduced because a local politician took the government and bus co to the European Commission or something. No matter, it isn't likely to last long. The 8 was barely used for years before it was withdrawn and this replacement isn't going to do much either. The local 59 service caters for most of the aged clientele on the route.

I could have thought of many better things to do with three peak-hour buses myself.

The road from Blackrock to the city is unbearably slow in peak times. There are sections of bus lane going in, I believe eventually that there will be a continuous one from Blackrock to Vincent's Hospital and then an alternating one the rest of the way in. That has been in the planning stages with the two councils for several years now though.
