Sky Install delay

    Hi,
my sister was to have Sky installed yesterday, having booked the install about three weeks ago, but it was not done due to an incorrect address being entered on the system. It has now been scheduled for Mid Janurary :( .
Is there any way I can get the equipment and card, and installed it my self, while still getting the equipment for free, or at least a low price. The install would be quick as I already have the phone connection and Sat cable in place.
    Sligo area.
    K

Only Sky supply the card. Normally that takes less than a week if you alread have a system. But UK to Irish post is poor at the mo.

See if you can contact the installer. The coax is often a small proportion of the work. the dish has to be mounted and aligned.

Note: Cable TV coax and most coax sold for TV aerials is unsuitable.

How do you know the coax goes to a suitable place for the dish?

You can install it all yourself but Sky won't refund the cost of Dish, LNB and Skybox, which come free, one per household for a free install. You own them from day of install.

Even a cheap 20 Euro meter is recommended as the Sky box has a habit fo displaying no signal and quality unless turned on when ther is SOME signal.

The Sky box will of course get all the BBC and ITV and many other channels without a card, without a subscription ever.

A FTA box & system from www.satellite.ie is cheaper than a Sky box to buy. Then in January you would have two systems. Both with all the free channels and one with Pay TV also. A single dish with quad LNB recommended.

I ran ct100 cable from a f-type faceplate to the attic with pleanty of spare cable to mount the dish on the gable. I used my FTA system to ensure I could get a signal from the gable. I have the sat meter from LIDL. There is no real need for two systems. The main reason for the install is that RTE quality is so poor. Hill between the house and truskmore and poor signal from Cairn Hill. Not to worry. Guess she'll have to wait.

    The Card arrived ok.
The post made it to Sligo, Co Dublin:rolleyes: , but not the Installer:(
Is it to late now to get an independent installer, since the card has already arrived?

Absolutley, its not too late to try an independent.
Approach him and see if he can install for you, explain the situation and see if you can get the free box and dish installed. I wonder if Sky cancelled that card, though... ?
