Bossanova, when it came out I was a bit smitten by this girl who loved the pixies so I bought it, loved it, needless to say I cant remember the girls name but still dust down(15 years later) the album now and again, genius, velouria:v:

This has been changing for me over the last couple of years since they're all so good. Right now, Trompe le Monde, as it feels the most rewarding to listen to out of all of them. Then Doolittle at a close second.

More love for Come on Pilgrim though!

    1. Trompe le Monde

    I love them all
    Bossanova for the mellow times
Come on pilgrim for any time
    Doolittle for any party mood/time
    Sufer rosia for whenever!!
Doolittle is probably my favourite cause it's the first pixies album I ever bought...so it has sentimental value (and Hey on it)

Trompe Le Monde. Possibly because it was the first Pixies album I ever heard, but I still love it.

    3. Come on Pilgrim EP

Come On Pilgrim featured in the indie album charts and was sold at import album prices at the time. It cost me £8.99 in Virgin in December 1987. Freebird who were in Grafton St at that point had it for a tenner.

There is a tendency for some people to call it an EP even though it was never marketed as such.

It has 8 songs - so have many other albums (some even less) and they are not considered EPs.

    example
    Slint - Spiderland. 6 tracks
Herbie Hancock - Headhunter. 4 tracks
Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans. 4 tracks.
Patti Smith - Horses. 8 tracks.
Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden. 6 tracks.

EPs are always included in singles charts and I always consider them essentially singles.

At 20 minutes, Come on Pilgrim's too long to be considered a single yet too short to be classified an album; number of songs have nothing to do with it. It may have been marketed as a "mini-album" as such, but it's still an EP.

Though I do find it surprising how much it cost back then. Were "normal" albums £10? I remember seeing it at the standard EP nearly-an-album price of €7 (or thereabouts) awhile back.

In those days new albums were £7.99 on average although HMV and Virgin used do some at £6.99.

Come On Pilgrim was expensive because it was on 4AD - a lot of independent label stuff was treated as an 'import' back then.

12" singles for the likes of The Wedding Present, The House Of Love, Felt etc used retail for £5.99 in Comet in 1988 which was quite stiff. By 1990 the price for such 12"s had dropped to £4.49 - £4.99.

They're all timeless, fantastic albums. Respect to the B Sides album as well. There's some cracking numbers on there.

"buy me a soda and try to molest me in the parking lot." These lyrics put surfer rosa in 1st place and is cemented by 'Gigantic'. Kim Deal is the sultriest sexiest 'ugly' woman ever. She does it big time!

Surfer Rosa is my favourite, followed by Come On Pilgirm, if we're classing it as a full album despite it being about half the length of one (surely it's the band's classification of it, and not how it was marketed we should be judging by)

"While we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?"

    Trompe Le Monde
the band class it as an Ep afaik, partially because most, if not all, of the songs were just lifted off the purple tapes demo.
i really cant decide which is my favourite but im gonna vote for bossanova because i always saw it as the forgotten Pixies album.

Picked Surfer Rosa cause its probably the rawest. Doolittle tho would be a close 2nd, as its got debaser on it, and its a pure mental track. Impossible poll, the albums are all brilliant.

Ya same here tbh. Although, i got to say, I like all of them because, they are all uniquely different and all very good in they're own right.

    Id have to say:
    1. Doolittle
    2. Surfer Rosa
    3. Come on Pilgrim
    4. Trompe le Monde
    5. Bossanova

It's a tough call between doolittle and surfer rosa. They're the only band I have never gotten tired of listening to since i was fifteen

tough poll.....as much as i like "Doolittle" i think its slightly overrated.i'd havta say "Surfer Rosa" because it has "River Euphrates" and "Cactus".

Doolittle is my favourite, it's one of the most important albums of recent times too. Pixies changed everything.

Bossanova is alright, nothing special. Trompe le Monde is dire.

    I don't have surfer rosa.

I find it hard to rate Come On Pilgrim as I completely associate it with Surfer Rosa, as like most people here, I bought Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrim compiled together. In my mind, they are one. From that point of view, I would rate the albums in order of their relase, with Sufer Rosa /Come on Pilgrim in No. 1 and Tromple La Monde in last place. I have never even heard Come On Pilgrim independant of Surfer Rosa so I'd have no idea how I would rate them that way.

I wouldn't have thought that the two albums on the one CD should stop you differentiating between them?

What about Big Star's #1 Record and Radio City?

When I bought Come On Pilgrim there were no other Pixies records to compare it with.
