System Fault on Sky+ box

Last night I got a message on my Pace Sky+ box, saying
    "System Fault
Sky+ playback and recording are unavailable
Please call 0818 719811 for assistance"

I checked all cabling etc and all ok, then I rang the number and spent 1.5 hours on phone to tech staff and was requested to do a 'house keeping' option on my sky+ box. Done this and box came back on after an hour or so, but still won't do a record.

Sky tech girl says call out an engineer, but I'm wondering if its worth the pain of waiting or costs.

It took an hour for box to come back after a reset? It should take only take ~10mins.

Anyway, I had this when my last Sky+ box was in its death throws. The first time it happened a "Full System Reset" fixed it, the next time it happened I did a reset but no luck. It took another two resets to get Sky+ features working again. Did you have any failed recordings prior to the error?

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post 'Navi 5445'.

I had no failed recordings. I was watching the Spanish football on Sky Sports and then went to the sky+ planner to retreive the recording of Top Gear. I selected the programme and went to play it and nothing happened. I then turned the box off and still nothing happened. I then rang Sky and the rest is mentioned in the first post.

Something similar happened a few months ago, and I got no System Fault. And even though I lost all recordings I could still record in the future. I have since done another reset and still nothing happening.

ring sky for an engineer but DO NOT pay for it. They will give it for free if you say you'll cancel.
