    Hi Folks,
Sorry in advance if this has been asked before a zillion times...
Thinking of buying a MusicMan guitar over the net ...so comparing 2 places , 1 in UK and 1 in US.

    Questions:
Q1 -AFAIK I wont pay customs & excise on a shipment from UK...true?what about VAT?

Q2 -How much duties and VAT should I expect to pay importing from US?
I am budgeting ~ 35% extra of total value (guitar +shipping) would that be about right?
Is it possible to get around this ..how do the C&E people bill you for these taxes?

    Cheers folks,
    JMarr

Aye, instrument resources sticky has an import duty calculator.

You won't be charged VAT from the UK, there are no import-duties between EU countries.

From the states it will be 4% import duty plus 21%VAT on the cost of the item plus the cost of shipping.

Generally you'll be expected to pay the duty upon delivery, in cash, more often than not. As for getting around it, you might get lucky and be overlooked but don't bank on it.

As Doctor J said but duty should be 3.2% for Acuoustic and 3.7% for Electric

    Cheers for the info Doc.

    Thats great.
...ok so NO extras whatsoever on shipments from UK?
Cool. I think I might go for UK then as price difference is negligible ,will be 48 Hrs shipping and if any thing went wrong its closer to send back.

only other difference is UK guitar not the preferred color but it will grow on me !:-D

Will post up pics soon as I get it!
