Hey, I've just started with a media firm and they want me to compile a relevant sales leads database (and when they say "compile" I obviously took it up as meaning "buy"). I remember from marketing class that there are several companies who compile and sell various databases, and I just wanna know who do I go to? Wheres the best, who's the cheapest, who's the best and the cheapest... you see where I'm going. If you need any more info I'd be happy to give it over..

    Cheers
    :v:

Not necessarily. It depends what medium you are in and who your potential customers are and how numerous you are.

By purchasing a CRM package such as Goldmine or ACT you can start building your own database and logging all your sales activity on each client. Lets say you are a medium aimed at builders. You could buy a database or you could get hold of a printed directory or even go though magazine adverts etc. Kompass also have a lot of industry directories as well.

By having a CRM package in place you can manage all your sales activities in a single place.

So basically I work for a publication and I want to build a data base of the follwoing (potential) clients so I can target them for ad sales:

    software developers
    IT developers
    web developers
    New business
    computer shops, like D.I.D etc

Is it possibly to just want to buy a data base of all companies which fall under those headings and are based in ireland and northern ireland, I know a few of em will be yellowpages material but I just wanna cut the hassle. When I worked for a property mag my bible was www.ovearseaslist.com - is there something similar for IT and the related industries?

Try Kompass, you tell them what industry your looking for, and they sell you a list of companies that fall under that industry heading.
Not sure if thats what your looking for.

Do you want specific info on each industry?

Well who else does it apart from Kompass? I want to try and not get diddled here like.. it doesn't have to be industry specific as I may need other databases later on but its only IT for the moment, web and software developers etc

Kompass is your best bet. As for a CRM package I would suggest SalesForce.com. I have used Goldmine, and wouldnt recommend it. If your looking to target secific Industrys. Look at putting some affilite offers together for the Industry bodies. For Instance marketing exec's the Insitute of Markrting, Gp's the ICGP. Teachers The ASTI, ETC, ETC

those lists tend to be alright as long as you are not expecting to get a contact name. The dynamic nature of irish jobs especially in IT will mean that up to 60% or 70% of the names on the list could be incorrect.
