Just wondering with all the talk about the street and the dangers out there has anyone been the victim of an unprovoked attack in the last year?
I've included an option for people to incluce attacks that came about because of the type of work they do, door ,security etc...

Have you been the victim of an unprovoked attack? 47 votes

Good idea to have this poll. One thing would be worth considering is what time frame we are talking about here... I mean we have some elder lemons on board here (no pun intended) and then we have the likes of Scuttery1 who if they go back to their mis-spent youth, would be going back a lonnnnng time!:D

Within the last twelve months, my wife (which I regard as on attack on myself and dealt with accordingly) was assaulted in a totally unprovoked situation on the street during our Christmas club party last year. Just for those that might think otherwise she was sober and the designated driver for the night.

    No,
in July, 5 thugs attacked me in Israel, one tried to stick broken bottle in my face , disarned him with a KM knife disarm. 5 tried to kick living daylights out of me. survived attack with only a black eye and some little bruises. these guys really tried to kill me. if it was not for my RBSD training I reckon I would have been left on life support machine.

in Aug 2004 ish attacked in a night club in dublin. someone started on me for no reason, tried to calm guy down by talking my way out of it. he swung haymaker, dispatched him with plam strike to jaw landing him about 10 feet away , and .KO . LOL..good enough for him!!!

Rathmines 3 years ago, was standing near Mcdonalds, big dude ran at me and butted me with head. pick me ring up and tried to throw me through a shop window. I though I was dead!!!! without going into the whole confrontation, he assumed mount position and rained punched down on me. massive eye jab attacke from me sorted this thing out. turns out someone said something to his chick and he though it was me, and decided to attack me . he learned a hard lesson that violence does not pay!!! ;)

All this attacks come pretty much out of the blue. I tried to talk my way out where I could. I all of them the attacker threw the first punches etc. I had to defend. and I did and I survived them all. I hated that these things happened to me and was not happy with what I had to do. but I have no regets either.

there has been more than this too. i think its the booze culture that make people into violent animinals like these thugs.

I suppose now, these attacks , especially Isreal, were really the ultimate pressure test. and now I do not fear street confrontation at all, and know I can defend myself.

Naturally I avoid and run first. but if I cannot I know I an defend myself or loved ones.

    No,
Edit: I see that the question has been changed since.
    ............................................................................................................

    i agree with dave there!

the time frame is a bit small!!

i hav'int been attacked in any manner for at least two years, seeing as i don't work in the "hospitality" trade any longer. nor do we go out that much anymore.

being attacked, assaulted or mugged is all down to the environments we pass through and a run of good or bad luck.

i was attacked when i worked as a glass collector, barman, cloakroom attendant, night porter, night auditor and night manager!!

it's not that i egged it on and was mainly down to drink and the animal some people become with it taken. it was also spread over an 8 year period and happened a whole lot less when i actually started doing doorwork??

my brother and my brother-in-law are 5 and 6 years younger than me and they end up finding themselves in trouble a lot more than i did when i was going out??

the brother-in-law got attacked by a guy with a screwdriver last week?? sorted it with a kick to the balls and elbow to the head and ran like the clappers!! but again this happens because he lives in a rough area and lads walk around off their heads on the weekend nights, and he has to pass them get home.

    so again! it's environment!!

been attacked lots but not since 2003. Dublin is safer than waterford - or ennis for that matter - and this is when I have been living in what is considered a reasonably rough area - and have worked in the roughest areas (darndale ballymun etc).

been older helps a lot (I am 26). Much more than build. I was stronger when I was younger in fact. I'm much lighter on my feet now is only thing.

I only picked the last year because we are in the final weeks of 2005 and I wanted a straw poll that would reflect this year only. Obviously the older you are the further back you could go to bring up past experiences.

A few people have tried to start fights with me, but on reflection, decided against it.

One of a group of lads tried to take my wallet on O'Connell Street one morning, but I just stopped him.

    That's about it.

A more interesting pole would be have you ever attacked someone unprovoked. I wonder how many yes' we'd get for that!

I was attacked by three guys last year in the middle of the night where I live in Blanchardstown and ended up fighting from the ground. While I was holding onto one guy and hitting him I was following the first principle in my art "strike if the limb is free" and kicking the other two.

At the same time I was getting kicked in the head myself but did not feel any pain and as the guy that I was hitting broke away, all three ran.

As I got up I then discovered that my shoulder was dislocated but do not know at what point it happened.

    No,
In the last year, no, before that, yes. Actually used to go to college in Dundalk and was less safe there than in Dublin. In two years saw more "action" than I have in 27 years in Dublin!
Last unprovoked attack was about 3 years ago, myself and 2 mates +my missus and her friend were jumped on by about 4 lads. I got a couple of wallops on the ground while struggling with one guy.
The reason I'm explaining is that it could have been prevented quite easily, the lads were looking for a row, and my mate responded, trying to be a peacemaker instead of just walking away.

Yes, I was attacked at work.
    Average night in Blanchardstown

Hardly an average night..........Iv'e lived in Clonsilla for 6 years and go out regularly in Blanch - Village and around the centre - and never had a sniff of touble - you see a little - but not every night !

No trouble at all since moving to Ireland in fact !

When younger in Salford, Manchester had a few provoked and unprovoked attacks, usually drink/women/taxi-queue related - and faults on either sides.

Most trouble iv'e ever seen was while member of British forces ( whilst on excercise) , male locals( of most country's ) don't like brits chatting up thier women for some reason ( nomatter where we are ! )

Best case for this was Grinstread , Denmark - great women - and better still that its ilvery naughty to strike with a fist over there, so they ( the blokes ) all fight with slaps ( open hands ) - great fun - Legoland is also cool........

To sum up - a few scrapes - but im still pretty.............

    :)

    :)

Slaps are a very effective strike (if done properly..i.e. cupped hand) ..I love em!!!

    No,
In the last year, yeah once - We were having a few beers at a friends going away party. Where there is beer there is usually trouble anyways. He tried to attack me with a rake, I jumped out of the way and he nearly took my friend's head off with it.

I'd say that constitutes as an attack.

He wasn't my friend at all :v:

It was quite a large gathering, he just turned up with a few of his friends. My friend knew them but I didn't. Anyways, it was over nothing anyways - He was just a hard man. After they took the rake off of him. funny thing was after they took the rake off of him, he had a 7 stone girl holding him back from attacking me.

    No,
Walking home from a friend's (I'm only a wee lad y'see) around pub closing time on a saturday night. Lad was out with a friend and two girls (I imagine wives like, they were in the "much older than Cabelo" bracket). Lad decided to picka fight with the tiny lad with the long hair... he gave out to me for being a "frined of the arts"... I dunno what that even means.

But long story short he punched me in the cheek, I kicked him in the chest. He fell down, and the others picked him up and dusted him off... then they went away. Quite good I felt... for a TMAer.

    No,
Was attacked one night while walking home from the night club after having a sin full of beer. I've posted about it before so not going back on it. Its something I'd rather forget about.

Lets just say I wasn't looking too pretty the next day!!! Enough said!!

Is this chap I met in Mellery during the summer? Going by that seminar he's not afraid to take a few slaps. Sound from the above that it paid off.... he certainly did the right thing, attack smartly and swiftly, then disappear!!!

No it was his older brother Alan!

Mark has been jumped coming home from his buddies house before by a guy looking for this mobile as he was talking to his dad who had rang him to see where he was! Which was only 30ft or so from his house at the time.
