excuse my ignorance, but what is a "crazy monkey defence system"??

    Mikel,

Its a pretty effective boxing defence method. When I first trained it fully in Firhouse Colm made us stand in a corner and defend normally against a boxing a partner. Then we tried using CM which was just much easier and much safer. Its a way of using your arms as head protection. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson used it pretty well against Wanderlei in their last Pride fight.

I see, so is he an SBG guy? Does he teach the same thing they do?

fair play ger, CM is a very effective way of getting raw beginners up to a fairly competent level of striking defence in as short a time as possible. when people get comfortable with CM it makes it easier to then teach them stuff like head movement, slipping, parrying etc etc

"Does he teach the same thing they do?"

well he came up with it so better to say 'we teach the same thing he does'

"I see, so is he an SBG guy?"

he is no longer part of the SBG organisation

I may be wrong but aren't there bits of this interspersed through the ISR Matrix clip we had up before from the Canadian SBG Affiliate? They were teaching this to Law Enforcement officers as part of the overall use of force policy for arresting and restraining suspects.
Maybe John or Vasch Ro could give us a better opinion on it? I think John is one of the few who can teach this and Vasch Ro did a bit of it with some Gardai under Johns' instruction a while back?
I'd be interested in taking at least a day of this seminar, depending on if I can get time away for it  Hopefully I'll have a better idea in the next few days as I'm hoping to get to a good few of the training sessions going on next year around the place.

sort of...the intent of CM can also be to use it to set up striking offence...whereas the 'crash' in the ISR (which is very similar to the CM structure) would be used with the intent to get to a superior clinch position. er, that clear??

i am not a qualified ISR instructor...but i have done the course. i showed VR and some of his buddies a basic outline of it with the idea to bring over Luis and Paul sometime in the future to teach it more indepth

    ISR Matrix Clip

This is a clip I've posted before but it's well worth a look :)

As far as I know the two guys at the start are the developers of the ISR Matrix, Luis Guitterez and Paul Sharp. The Crazy Monkey type thing can be seen where the baldy lad (Paul Sharp) is shadow boxing on his own. Near as I can tell, they use the Crazy Monkey stuff as a guard to ceash an opponnents blows and gain dominance in the clinch and takedown. rather than going toe to toe boxing in this style? John will correct me here if I'm getting it wrong I hope ;)

I was gonna stick this up on the other "Is this Fighting?" thread, but that'd be stirring it a bit, and not really comparing like with like? I will say that if you check any of the lads going at it throughout the clip, not just Luis and Paul, they are all working well and looking well capable of minding themselves!

Just a reminder for anyone who doesn't know UL that well, this seminar is in the Old Sports Building (PESS Building), not in the university arena.
Number 27 on the map below. Drive up through the college until you see the AIB bank and then go down the path beside that.

    Saturday: 2pm to 5pm
    Sunday: 11am to 2pm
