    Do power city do finance??

Everywhere does finance but shop around a bank loan may well be cheaper from working in an electrical shop for a couple of years part time there is nothing more you like hearing than the question "do you finance ?" and "what can i get for 40 a week" etc put it like this a tv over three years advertised at say 9.99 a week and they ask how much more for a surround sound they end up buying way too much and finacne the lot for 5 years ....

bank loan will be so much cheaper then repayments on finance. The only real way to get finance is if you get a year interest free which will give you the time to get the cash together and then pay the lot off before the end of the year.

I'm still hoping for another 42"-er from Aldi or Lidl in the near future. This one is doing the rounds in Germany at the moment. It's HD ready. Still though, a trip to Power City wouldn't do any harm. Care to mention any particular stores that are carrying it?

I bought a Beko TV a good few years ago and it seemed like a good bargain at the time but it only lasted about 2 years. I wouldn't have much faith in them now, no matter how good a bargain they appear to be.

Will this work with sky HD when it comes out?
    I think you'll need DVI

Mine is still going strong, about 3 years now. A "good few years ago" they did have a bad rep. I know a guy who works in powercity now and says they now get very few beko things back for service/warranty.

    is it capable of HD?

if not then it is useless imo as HD tv is coming and the xbox 360 is HD compatible as will be the PS3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭psicic

I can't believe that 26" Dell I got only a week ago already looks like an average-to-bad deal  -> this Beko has a VGA port...hmmmmm....42" monitor so much bigger than 26"!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

it doesnt support any of the official hd resolutions
    720p for xbox360/sky
    1080i for some hd sevices
    1080p for ps3

    this is only 480

Aye, there's been a huge reduction in plasmas across the board as retailers try to shift the non HD TV complaint screens.Beware!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,391 ✭✭✭fatherdougalmag

Does anyone have the whole HD facts and figures to hand? In other words, what exactly is Sky rolling out HD wise (just Sky some Sports and Movie channels + Sky One? How much is the new box going to cost?) The same for soon-to-be-artist-formerly-known-as-NTL. Anybody know what their HD rollout strategy is? What sort of timeframe do we expect for HD-only life to come along? If there are bargains to be had over the next couple of weeks, I wouldn't mind shelling out for a rock-bottom non-HD LCD now and then biding my time for a couple of years to make the HD jump.

the beko power city plasma is very low quality hence the price, 1299Eur is a lot for a tv that will make your eyes bleed, the picture quality is so poor.

LCD screens are more superior to Plasmas. In fact, as far as I know, Sony have stopped making plasma TV's.

When you're looking for HD TV, make sure it has a HDMI with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection for unecrypting HD signals). Some sets say HD compatible, which isn't quite the same thing and won't work with HD tramsmissions that use HDCP.

From what I gather, Sky HD will be using HDCP, though maybe not initially.

Thanks for the info and link byte. I'm an NTL customer (BB + TV) so I don't think I'll be too concerned about Sky right now. Not much sense trying to find out about NTL's plans until their takeover is complete. Does anyone know what the situation is with DVD content/players? Although, that department, I don't think HD will do Thomas the Tank Engine any favours.

Ok guys, quick update on this. A friend picked up one of these last night. Was sold to him for €1299 as that was the advertised price. They tried to charge him €1399, but he had the newspaper clip with him that showed the price as €1299, so they agreed on that price. Set it up using his analogue box. Unbelievably poor picture and very bad interference.

With NTL Digital the picture is far superior. Colours are good and there's nice definition. The best demo of the tv was using Dodgeball on DVD. Crystal clear and beautiful picture quality!

Some info from the UPC/Liberty (new NTL Ireland owners) camp on their HDTV plans.

Put a crap feed into it get a crap picture. That's usually why you can't rely on the instore picture to decide whether a tv/panel is good enough or not. Those store televisions split the line so many times, you can't end up the same quality feed as the single orginal source.

That tv would make a HORRIBLE monitor.

Not designed for that at all to be honest, terrible resolution.

That's why the Irish public is in debt! Car financing/electrical goods financing/credit card charges.... I've never seen such bad financial management...

People in Ireland just do not know what they can and cannot afford..

    Lol. More superior.

LCD vs Plasma is a never ending debate. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Wouldnt say outright that 1 is better than the other
