A friend of mine is looking for a cheap laptop before christmas. This will not be used for gaming or any cpu or gpu intensive work so it doesn't need to be that powerful. Priorities are that it has a decent size and quality screen and that it is new.

Does anybody know some good sites or special offers that can deliver within a week?

Did you have a look in PC world? I heard they had laptops for about €500

Dell do laptops for about 500 euro mark as well. Another place to try is eurosimm.co.uk Bought two laptops off them no problem.

The laptops in PC World for 499 are actually alright too..

    1.3 Celeron M, 256MB Ram, 40GB HDD, 14 inch screen, CD-RW/DVD....

They are also quite slim and light. Was very surprised.

Well I specified it has to be new. By cheap i mean around the 700-800e mark or less.

I really try to avoid that place. The price may be ok but you can be guarenteed it's full of the cheapest crappiest components they could get their hands on.

Not bad but I was looking to get something with slightly better specs than that. Maybe a slightly faster processor and 512mb ram.

Was thininking of dell but they are another company i'd prefer to avoid although they are hard to beat at the cheaper end. I'll check those 2 out, thanks.

-edit- btw what is a 1.3m equivelent to in speed compared to a p4?
