Question for the mods ...

I have wanted to post this for some time now but after seeing one too many references to drugs I feel the need to.

I'm not talking about the posts informing people of the dangers of drugs, I'm talking about the posts bragging about them or referring to them.

As I have seen pointed out in threads before, a lot of younger people read and post to this forum.

I don't understand why people advertise the fact they indulge in taking drugs. Maybe those of you who do would tell me why you bring it in to conversation?

Do the mods not see fit to delete these posts? And if not, why not?

Surely to have "fair and balanced" discussions, people should be able to comment on the benefits as well as the dangers of drugs?

Dunno, I don't take them. Maybe thats why we should let people tell us.

As long as people aren't being too juvenile about it, I don't see we people should banned from talking about them. Even if they are being stupid about it, people should be just ignore them or tell them they're idiots.

I'm not big into creating taboos or the Helen Lovejoy angle.

And? I fail to see your point.
I just don't think it is appropiate on the boards.
I didn't know it was said before.
It shouldn't be allowed. Full stop.

Yip. That was 7 years ago. Im one of the lucky ones.

My point is I am simply saying there are young kids viewing this forum and I do not think it is right they are exposed to people bragging about taking drugs.

We all know the dangers, we all make our choices. I am not judging people.

I am trying to think of the younger impressionable users of boards.ie

In fairness, you're going to get sensible posts from both sides but you're also going to get people bragging as well as uninformed people spouting untrue anti-drugs propaganda. It balances out. Or the mods could delete the latter two types of posts but where the line is drawn could be quite vague.

I don't think I'd ever consider boards.ie to be "suitable for all ages". The net itself isn't "suitable for all ages". It's up to the kids' parents to protect them from this stuff when they're on the net.

If you stop the talk about drug taking to "protect the kids" don't you have to stop the talk about alcohol, tobaco, guns, sex, ect ect ect ect. No kid is going to be walking around thinking "I am never going to do any drugs" then read a post on the internet saying "wow I was high last night" and sudenly change thier views.

Well said, if your gonna suddenly out law drugs for the kids sake, are there not many other topics that should be banned?

First without giving a particular reason, one can easily deduce that if such a large number of people take drugs regularly, they must enjoy them on some level.
What you're suggesting (and what happens in school) is to pretend that drugs are nothing but bad. That children should be taught only one side and shielded from that fact that drugs can be real good fun. Would you not think it might benefit them if they were taught to respect them?

Here's a quote I like, taken from a book (available online) called "E for ecstasy".
A deeply-embedded puritan ethic seems to affect the response to drugs in Western societies. To use a drug for pleasure is taboo, yet to use a drug to relieve pain is acceptable. In reality there is no sharp distinction: if someone is 'suffering from depression' and a drug makes him feel happy, it is regarded as a medicine and meets with approval. But if that person is regarded as normal and takes a drug that makes him happy, he is indulging in something quite unacceptable. Except, of course, if the drug happens to be nicotine or alcohol.

Here's a link to a torrent for a documentary called "ABC Special, Ecstasy Rising"
    http://www.pot-tv.net/archive/view2.cgi?number=2610&redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.pot.tv%3A6969%2Ftorrent.html%3Finfo_hash%3D3ce40b8cbd848124b902ea6e3a390e3d12f164df

More importantly, what will we gain if there is no discussion taking place about drugs?

    Drugs are ****ing amazing.

I managed to get banned from a forum for posting a link to a website that had some item's among its stock which would be illegal in ireland. I was told that warning people that such things werre illegal was not enough as that this was akin to telling someone cocaine was illegal and then showing them how to get it, and as such was bad for this place. Of course since then theres been threads on doing just that (how to smuggle grass through dublin airport, pretty illegal) that nary raised an eyebrow from the ever vigilant mods. Forget about any consistency in moderation, it will depend on the perspective/prejudice/inclination of whoever has the badge.

:v: < Sure if ye dont like it then feck off, plenty more where you came from to swell the ranks
