Aren't you a little old to have all those toy cars :p

I've a few, alot I ended up destroying when I was younger, I have a 1:24 scale Ferrari 288GTO in racing livery. Still there, but slightly worse for wear, I shouldnt've been given that hammer when I was younger. The 288GTO is possibly my favourite car in existance, and was my first model. I also have a nice Series 1 E-Type. Numerous Ferraris (my older brother didn't have space for them when he moved out), a few Mercs I think, a yellow 993 carrera, and a BMW Z3 (a present),and others I forget

I have a lot of diecast cars, from all around the world. I enjoy my hobby.
I think i have about 6000, anyway the house is full of them. here is a
    tiny fraction of them

I don't think anyone's ever too old to collect model car's. I've recently started collecting the one's I wrecked as a kid. E-bay is a great place to buy obsolete models in good condition or one's needing restoration. I recently bought some CD's on E-bay and can print off replica boxes. I think it's a great hobby and not as much problem's storing as the real thing's.

    Do you have kids junkyard?

Because I reckon my dad having model hearses would scare the **** outta me. Very cool collection, when I get a bit of money I want to buy some of my favourite cars

Squirrel, the dead will do nothing to you it's the living one's you have to watch out for.:)I've no kids only dogs and they don't mind. I have two real hearses so as you can gather they don't scare me either.

Touché. I remembered one of my favourite models, a black MR2 Mk2, it's my dad's and lives in the living room

I gathered, I wouldn't mind the real ones, it's the models would probably creep me out. Then again my uncle, or some relation like that is a funeral director

I have a few 1:18 mostly iconic movie or TV models,
my favourite at the moment is suprisingly based on an Irish built car (although modified slightly) :D

I have a few model cars - my favourite has to be an auto-art , Subaru WRC car of 2001 , amazing detail .
    I also have a Escort cosworth , pug 206 WRC , Ferrari F50 ,Subaru impreza 22b ,and a Ford focus WRC -all 1/18 .

I also have a good few model trucks, 1.24 scale models in plastic built by myself and 1.50 scale ones made by corgi and tekno .
I also make some 1.50 models in irish transport co. liveries

    John:)

It's great to see such an interest in scale models. There is a great selection of model trucks available. O'Murachu's shop in main street Innishannon has a very good selection of scale model car's and truck's, he even has limited edition articulated truck model's in Irish liveries and Irish Fire Engine's. It's the Centra shop on the main street. I'm surprised not to see a truck forum on boards.ie, I think a lot of people would be interested in modern and vintage trucks.

Where did you get the mustangs GS, I've looked around when passing model shops but never saw one.
I used to collect the type you make up,had quite a little collection going, untill my nephews would call. I eventually gave them away because I was forever having to fix doors or bonnets.

Pooh, I was just going to ask about the '65 too- hard model to find.
I have the '68 GT500 but would like an early Hertz Mustang, love that black 'n gold.;)

If they're obsolete models you could look up www.vectis.co.uk and check out their previous auction results and their future auction time table. If its ever been made you'll find it there somewhere. It won't be cheap though.

I've got a dozen or so Vanguards and other 1:43 models . I buy them at shows from a guy from N.Ireland who sells them at a realistic price unlike the model shops.

I have a few, kinda ran outa space. I was "allowed" put up a shelf above the telly but once it was full, about 6 cars, that was it !

I have lots of little matchbox sized cars since I was a kid, nothing special, so I let the kids play with them, Majorette and the like. It gas though when you look at a little model now and recall it as your favourite, like a little 7 Series BMW (the first one) or the Jaguar XJS by Corgi (The Saint) or the first Opel Senator.

I had some nice larger ones, a Mk1 Capri , facelift, in about 1/16th scale, extremely well detailed, best I've seen, but I wrecked it when Iw as young. Same with an E-Type FHC.

Also had a lovely Cheverolet Chevelle 454 SS, plastic model but I used way too much glue and then made a balls of the paintwork ! Pity really !

Currently I have a in 1/18th scale a Sky Blue '65 Mustang convertible, Dodge Viper, a terrific pink '59 Cadillac Biaritz Convertible (bought in Halfords for €20), a 300SL Roadster in red (€50) and an identical Gullkwing (€15 TK MAXX yipeee) and the two that I am most delighted with as they aren't made anymore, a white Pagoda with top down and another with soft top up.

The last two were made by different manufacturers and hence some details are slightly different, or even incorrect. I can never make up my mind which one I like best !

I had to refrain from buying these as I'd keep doing it, so now I dont even look anymore. Also since they are so expensive nowdays I can get some parts for my REAL car !!

    Mega thread junkyard.

I have a pile of model cars. For the last few years I have only bought Lamborghinis. After years of patiently waiting a 1:18 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary finally came on the market (Ricko).

I just wish an 1:18 Alfa Romeo SZ and a 1:18 Masterati Ghibli SS Spyder 1972will one day be produced then I'll be happy.

Check out this fella's website - he is Irish and his collection is huge. The website is smashing too:

Yes i know of Mike murphy alright - i bought one of those irish tekno models off him - suberbly detailed - i would buy every issue - but as im only working part time i can't afford to :(
I find the tekno are a better buy compared to corgi model trucks - tekno go up in value a small bit , whereas one can loose value on corgi trucks  which can be very disheartening .

I'll post some of my models later on if you'd like ,
    John :)

Seems there's alot more diecast collectors out there than one would think !

There seem to be a lot of interest alright Irish-trucker, I'd love to see more photo's. I have more models to photo but I have to take them out of storage so I'll post more as soon as I get time. If anyone is interested there are two good magazines I get every month, Diecast Collector and Model Collector which I can recommend to anyone if they're interested in model cars, trucks and planes.

While familiar with models and diecasts, I have often wondered if there were
any companies in Ireland actually making these. The only company that springs to mind is Triang and their 60s range of Spot On which is very collectable given the fact that they were bigger than Dinky, they were expensive and when the factory caught fire in 67, no more were made,
other than those in New Zealand which were only made for a few years.

Who remembers those Bus Eireann advertisers in the early mid 80s which
showed a Bombardier Green single deck bus driving off on a marble floor
out of a box. Presuming this was a large remote control model, who
actually made it and was it made commercially?

    Hi Guys,

A super website to find any type of new die cast is called TACOT. The offer a very good service and always better to purchase a few together as the minimum postage is €19.00.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭G Luxel

Always go to large shops such as Byrne's World of Wonder, Toymaster or Smyth's Toys. Sometimes they may have a limited supply of collectors models that they may have purchased in bulk from a closed down model shop or a wholesaler. Ranges Ive seen were motormax and the Matchbox I-75 range. Some dealers are selling the 06 range of Siku models including the matchbox size which are very difficult to come by. I cannot find Majorette toys anywhere in matchbox size, except for large garages and the Marvin range.

    That's some collection, Junk.

Now if I could find a silver 4 door E30, I'd be set.

Even TR7s were hard to come by, at the time I went looking, at least.

I have a small and varied collection of model cars.

I like to go for authentic vehicles with Irish liveries and registrations ...though these are few and far between!

The only vehicles I have found to date with such liveries and plates are a Galway double-decker vintage tour bus - with a 'ZV' reg, and a '97 reg Eurolines/Bus Eireann bus.

Other Irish-leveried vehicles I have are a Garda Discovery and a customised-liveried Morris Minor Van (complete with my fathers Plant Hire details and original 1962 registration;))

Anybody know of any other models with Irish liveries and registrations?

Also, where can I get the Opel Vectra and Ford Mondeo Garda cars which were availabe a few years ago (I only see the non-authentic Opel Omega model Garda cars available at the moment) ?

Oh, and I'd like to get a small-scale Jordan F1 car too ?

Any ideas where to get these at sensible prices???

I have a 1:50 scale Lamborghini Diablo which I would consider swopping!

(I also have a few model aircraft ...e.g. Spitfire and WWII Bomber...but thats another story;))

I've go about eight or nine fire engines with Irish reg. numbers and Dublin County Council written on them, Corgi made them a few years ago. O'Muruchus in Innishannon has a lot of Irish company artic. trucks and fire engines but they not be cheap.

I'd say he has an even better selection than the city tbh, as he's a classic car enthusiast himself he knows the score.

Corgi will be selling TR7s next year. Their 07 range was shown recently and judging by the castings, they are very well detailed.

Dinky toys made a few versions, you can buy them on e-bay from time to time or www.vectis.co.uk.
