    Hello all,

I downloaded a trial of windows x64 yesterday from the microsoft site. My computer was working fine....
burnt the iso on to a disk, everything still working fiine......

Rebooted with the disk in the drive and when it came to the part of the installation asking me where to install windows, it just showed me an unformated drive. It looked almost as if the drive had just been installed and never used.

I installed windows on another drive and its up and running. But my drive with all my important stuff is saying "unallocated" in the component section of administrative options.

I have run SMART tests and disk diagnostics with ontrack recovery and they both say the drive is fine. The files all seem to be there..... I'm thinking that the file allocation table or NTFS equivalent is corrupt.

Is this a problem with XP x64 build 1.433 does anyone know? Any advice anyone can give would be fantasic! Thanks

Check disk management and see if the drive is showing up as a foregin drive. If it is it might just be a matter of right clicking it and selecting import foregin drive.
If it's not showing up it might be because it is a dynamic drive created by a newer(bare with me here) version of XP. I had a problem similar to this before where a drive was formatted and converted to dynamic by WinXP SP2 and after a reinstall of WinXP SP1 the drive was not recognised. Upgrading to SP2 fixed it though. I would suggest you upgrade to WinXP64 SP1 and see if that helps.
    Hope this helps...
