Can you confirm the email address that it was sent to/from? (Check /post the headers from the email)

I understand your desire for privacy, but if you want an answer I'd ask that you supply your eBay account name.

For now, I'd wait a few days to see if a human responds..

This is a scam or possibly scamola. Did you read the URL at the top of the screen when you were asked to login ? Most people don't and they are sending their ebay login details through a fake site. In this case this is what you did.

You have been suspended from eBay because our records indicate your account was involved in activities that violate our policies.

How did you log onto ebay? did you type www.ebay.ie (or co.uk or com) or did you login from a link in an email.

If the latter its probably a fake site and a scam. Type www.ebay.ie into your browser address bar and go in that way and see if your account is suspended.

Most ebay emails now are coming with your real name (as oposed to your nickname) in the greeting. This is because your ebay registered email address was/is readily available to scammers as a result of ebays crappy security and business processes. However the real name behind that email isnt available to the scammers. Of course this only applies if the scammers cant guess your real name from your nickname or email addy.

Also if you did log into a scam site they have your password - get to the real ebay site and change it ASAP.

Yup. Got one of these a few weeks back myself; different style, well done format and half masked URL but easy enough to spot as a fake, especially when you look at the headers.
Reported to eBay....get a lot of these for paypal but this is the first for ebay.
Dear [username], eBay needs a correct information from you.

We are unable to verify or authenticate your credit/debit card information on file with us. You have been pre-indefinitely suspended from eBay because credit cards information incorrect (credit card number, pin, expdate or cvv2 code). We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us. Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

eBay is located at 2145 Hamiliton Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125.

Note that in the above quoted URL, the link is valid; in my email it was masked and referred to some IP and a bunch of ports; always view a link in the browser bar before you click it.

I'd contact eBay and ask them to suspend your account before whoever this is does whatever they intend to do with your data.

[edit] Or not, since you say it's kosher.

Ok...seems like it's legit anyhow "No longer registered with eBay"

    (a) is vague:)
Seems a bit odd that you'd be guilty of (b) given: "Member since: 08-Nov-03"
    (c) they think they're knock-offs? you've evaded tax..?

    *shrug*
Persist, and wait for a response from eBay staff.

maybe it's the fake LV & Boss ties i bought last month??? hehehe...

edit: i don't have any fees to pay either.... why me?? at this time of year!!???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,382 ✭✭✭peckerhead

I can see you too — No longer a registered user :(
    Hey, nice ties, though..!

I'd guess that someone hacked your account and started acting the bollix offering non-existent Xboxes or something (typically from China, MoneyGram/Western Union payments only), someone got burned, and eBay suspended your a/c. I saw exactly this happen to a German seller a while back — hey, I nearly 'bought' an iPod myself!

I reported it all to eBay, and even contacted his bank in China, but I never heard anything back. eBay also get their listing/selling fees from scam artists who've hacked accounts, of course...

as an aside I recently received an email from ebay asking me to participate in a survey. I checked the link which was to a survey company which did business with ebay and the headers agreed. So I clicked on it and got a dead survey page.

I sent the email to spoof@ebay and got back an instant reply that it was aspoof. I queried it further and eventually got an admission that it was a genuine email - no correct link though...

still haven't received a reply from anybody in ebay yet re: this... soooo p1ssed off tho!!
