    Hi

I had a problem with my computer tonight. Here are the specs

    Athlon XP 2800 +
    1gb ram pc3200
    Abit NS7 motherboard
    Ge force 6800 128mb agp

The computer wasn't overlcocked at all, and from looking at the BIOS temperature monitor, the temperatures seemed fine and stable. I didnt change any settings recently. I replaced an older ge force card with the 6800 recently.

In the middle of a game of battlefield 2, the screen went blank and the computer seemed to have crashed, so I held the power button to knock it off. When I rebooted, I heard a series of long beeps from the motherboard speakers. They would go on for about 2 seconds and then stay off for about 4 seconds and then come on again in a cycle. I can't identify this beep code from any manual I have looked for on the Abit site.

Sometimes the PC would boot and other times I would get that beep code. I left it for a while maybe if it needed cooling down and I rebooted it. A bios message came up and said 'CPU not configured properly or unworkable', then after that, the beeps. I left it for a while and then was able to get into the bios setup screen, and I reset the settings to the most stable default setttings. I can now boot into windows and everything seems normal. Im typing this post from the computer in question.

Can anyone explain here what might have happened ? Anyone had similar experiences ? And on another note, is it possible to put a socket A fan on a socket 754 or socket 939 cpu ? I have a nice fan here id like to keep if I upgrade.

    Thanks

Maybe a PSU issue? Try it back with the older geforce card?

Sounds like a power issue to me. Try putting in the old graphics card?
