What was the really crappy brand that Gibson used to make? Started with an O didn't it?

Seriously, years ago they made Gibsons under a different name that wasn't Epiphone and it's annoying me now.

you're thinking of regular 'orville' guitars, pretty much an epiphone, where as the one i bought it an ''orville by Gibson'', a gibson quality guitar built to gibson specs with gibson pups, just made in japan, check the headstock;)

Aye, I noticed that alright. Good purchase anyways. It'll sound rather nice through your ENGL I'd imagine.

Nice guitar. Would have went for the tokai myself. Also I'm pretty sure thats mark from england you bought it off. I found his prices a bit much tbh and its just a hunch but I reckon you could have got the same guitar a good bit cheaper elsewhere. Anyway enjoy it and let us know what its like

ya reckon? tbh i don't know much about orville prices, but there aren't that many around in the first place and i thought 625 sterling for what is essentially a gibson les paul custom is a fairly decent price.

I can't wait to get it!!!!

by the by, the seller asked me this ''do you have your geetars plekked then? i am a total fan'', anyone else have a clue what this means?

A Plek is a computerised fret filing machine supposedly capable of creating extremely accurate fret jobs. They are used a lot on original Steinbergers since they had no truss-rod.

    EDIT: more info here

Maybe he's got one of those machines to sell and he thinks you're just the chap that would need one

Has the axe you bought been plekked? If it has I would consider that to be a very good thing indeed. Maybe he is just a fan of plekking as he said.

i have no idea, i'll ask him though!

I think i'm going to buy the cream pickguard and mounting rings to get the Orville to look a little more like this....

no, you leave it!!! there's holes in the body for the pickguard, that'll annoy me... anyway, when i took the pickguard off my epi i didn't really like the feel of it...

And i'm not a fan of the black mounting rings for the hummers.

    I'm soo damn picky!!

Besides, if i change it and decide i don't like it i can just change it back:)

but i may leave it for the moment, can't really afford to buy even the little things, booked flights to rome last night too:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

I would leave it as is. Or if you must have a pickguard then a black one with white binding. :v: :v: :v:

Nice one Lundi! That's real nice! The only thing I don't like is the fact that you have just bought another guitar and I haven't. :p
