Boiled Eggs

Now, this is a serious thread.

The search for the perfect boiled egg has been a passion of mine for a long time. I need the following info from people.

    1) Do you use boiling water straight off or do you put the eggs into cold water and bring to the boil?

    2) With either method, how long do you think it should take for a) a soft b) a hard boiled specimen.

I personally use boiling water and give four minutes for soft and seven for hard.

Has anyone got a different method? I would love to hear from you if you do...

    Listening out!!

4 minutes for soft? Does that give you a runny centre? I usually put them in cold water, and when the first hint of a bubble comes to the top I give them 2 and half to 3 minutes for a perfect liquid yolk. Mmmm delish!

Put eggs in cold water, start to boil as soon as I see the little bubbles appear I start the countdown of three minutes, hey presto soft boiled centre.Soldiers all the way!!

The easiest way to boil an egg is to take 2 eggs from the fridge (more if required). Then shout "MAM COOK ME SOME EGGS"

Or if your no longer living at home like me you might need a gf.....failing this domino pizza do food.

I use cold water instead of hot to make sure the egg doesn't split open from the sudden expansion in the heat.

    Poach your eggs, much nicer.

if you put salt in first they won't crack if you add boiling water also you can time them better, eg it's exactly 5mins from putting in the water and the yolk remains soft :)!

I prefer to coddle the egg lovingly for 5-6 weeks in a warm place and then fry my day old hatchling with some rashers...the more enterprising amongst you could feed the chick corn for several more weeks and shove the resulting creature in an oven at gas mark 6... :v:
