Not sure if anyone has mentioned this here before, but I was in Bikeworld today just for a browse, and saw this bike for the first time. All I can say is wow!! I'm on a provisional licence and straight away assumed that it'd be out of my league, but it comes in a restricted version as well and I have to admit that it's one of the best looking cruisers I've ever seen.

This is the best set of pictures I could find about it

    http://www.forocoches.com/foro/showthread.php?t=277740

It's styled on the V-Rod, and a recent write-up in the Times was very good. I'm a big lad and it's extremely comfortable. I have to admit that I'm very, very tempted. Group 4 insurance too!! Only stumbling block is the price - €8k. Still, I could be paying a quick trip to the bank manager in the new year as my tax and insurance is up on my current thing.

I seen this a while ago when they got them in. First thing I though was "what a load of cheap unnessesary chrome". It looks like what it is , a cheap Asian knock off of the V-Rod.

I drive one of these myself , so don't get me wrong, I love chrome, but the GV650 looks like a full size model toy of the V-Rod

This Kawasaki W650 was 8k aswell, and it would be a far better choice for your money than the GV650. It's also available restricted so you can drive it on your Provisional licence and then get the restrictor removed when you pass giving you 50bhp.

I'm getting one in the next week, haven't been on a bike in years, and like the first poster, was super impressed that I could get the old provisional and ride the restricted version,

I'll let you know how I get on.

I am truely gobsmaked by what people think is a great bike. Have any of you actually seen a Hyosung after 2 years , they turn to rust and die.

Don't get me wrong, I'm by far not a bike snob (you should have seen the **** I've driven), I just hate seeing people waste their money on this sh!t and thinking they are the business.

It will all end in tears, don't say you weren't warned.

The build quality is supposed to have improved in the past year or two. They do still have problems but are improving.

check korider.com, its a decent forum for Hyosung and 1 bandit owner (dont ask)
Im on a gt650, I got it last year and had no real problems since, the only times its been in for its service was the 1k and 6k interval, saying that I friend of a friend is on his 3rd now (2 wherehis fault and the 3rd was a blow up, but hey even Hondas can have blow ups)

The only problem I have found with the whole thing is that you will need a credit card to but parts of the net as they are almost impossible to get here

One problem with the Hyosung Aquilia 650 is that it is not learner legal without restriction. It has something like 70 bhp, while the Yamaha Dragstar Dragstar 650 has 40. A Star will provide a sense of a big cruiser for a learner, which even my beloved 250 Dragstar does not, and its shaft driven too. Bikeworld did have near the top of the stairs with accessories on it. I was thinking of it, but opted for a 250 instead. The c. 8000 Euro would have strained me a little too much. Also I might find learning and commuting easier on the 250. I would look into a 650 Dragstar. They look big, but do not seem much heavier to the rider than a 250. I have been told that a larger Yamaha crusiers are nice, well balanced bikes, while, say, a larger Suzuki Intruder might seem quite heavy. The Hyosung would also have worse depreciation than a Dragstar. The secondhand prices for the Dragstar are solid.

I've only known 2 people with hyosungs(gt650's)....both broke properly(dropped valves) within first year under warranty. Thats 100pc unreliability in my book.

That's a shame:( . It does look nice.

    Well...I'm from Italy,
couldn't get the HD V-ROD becuz €18.000,00 are far to much for my pocket,
got the imitation: the Hyosung(still don't know how to say it) Aquila GV650 2nd hand for €3.500,00.
    From Oct2005:
    - not great bike, but really good
    - no rust
    - did not die
    - the engine is great (suzuki) with about 70CV
Just having a problem now with the speedo, but i think it was becuz of the great heat we had here in Italy 2 weeks ago (47°C)!Ridin it my nails were burning.

It really has a unique look (apart the HD V-ROD) and It's powerfull!
You can choose if u wanna take an easy ride with your girlfriend...ore if someone on the road, with those naked bike 600cc just look @ you like saying
    "poor guy,see you there"--just open the gas!WROOOAM!Like a rocket!
This bike is the most powerfull of the cathegory!

It's a cheap bike, things to do are change the hose breaks with some aftermarket ones, the breaks paddle with some from Brembo and that's It.

So if someone asks me about a Hyosung Aquila GV650 i say:
If you don't wanna spend a LOT of money and want a nice bike,GET IT!

If You got money You can get:
    - HD V-ROD
    - Ducati 999
    - Benelli F4
    - MV Agusta Brutale 750:D

The Aquila is just a toy V-Rod. Buy a real one like I did.

Why not buy two, the V-Rod is just that cheap  !!!

For the price of a V-Rod you could buy about 3 very good Jap bikes.

The V-Rod is c. 16,000 Euro. Granted there are faster bikes for less money, perhaps better depending on inclination, but it is not massively expensive. It does have 121 bhp in reasonably compact and well shaped dimensions. The Aquila has so much plastic on it. It is a good bike, but the styling is a V-Rod knock-off, though all Japanese metric cruisers derived their appearance from other H-Ds.

been reading through these posts regarding hyosung. early examples of some of hyosungs did rust, but the company took action and now serious improvements have been applied. because hyosung are determined to be serious players in the world market they take note of feedback they receive and act upon it. consider korean offerings in the car market. they now offer 7 year warranties on certain models. they put their money where their mouth is so to speak. the 650 aquila is the flagship of the hyosung fleet. this is no v-rod imitation although rumour has it that harley davidson did write a letter of complaint to them. these models have been in production now for over two years and there are no reports of any significant problems including corrosion. obviously with the amount of crome on them keeping on top of cleaning is of vital importance but the same argument applies to any such bike including the v-rod. i,ve owned an aquila 650 for just over a year now and can say with full confidence this is fine machine, well built, well engineered and well finished. the quality of the chrome is good as well. be in no doubt, the koreans are here to stay and i feel certain they will be securing an ever larger slice of the world market over the coming years. if you own one... enjoy, if not buy with confidence, the only tears you,ll be shedding will be tears of joy!!:)

ok i take your point but i,m speaking from experience rather than trying to sell you something. if anyone from hyosung is reading this i hope my cheque is in the post. no, seriously i like to give credit where credit is due. i owned a korean car for four years and i had my doubts at first. but i have to admit it served me well for over 60,0000 miles. rant over.

update on the hyosung aquila gv650. sadly the finish on parts of the bike are starting to show that hyosung still have much to learn. my bike is only 8 months old and already the mirrors are corroding, the chrome on the footrests and brake reservoir is flaking off, both the crash bars and rear carrier are rusting. on the lower headstock the chrome is bubbling. i have now been back to the dealer and a warranty claim is being submitted. i,ll post back when the outcome is realised. i have spoken to a friend of mine who was a chrome plater to trade and he told me that the problem is that the metal underneath the chrome has,nt been treated correctly. needless to say i,m gutted. nice bike, good build quality, ruined by poor finish.
