PC slowing during game play

I think I know the answer to this already but just to get a second opinion...

Recently upgraded my motherboard/chip (Abit BE7 Raid & P4 3.0) and my graphics card to a 9800 pro. My old spec was Abit BE7 and P4 2.5 + 9700pro. Since the upgrade my pc is slowing down during gameplay. Current playing COD2. It plays fine for about 5 secs then slows right down for about 3 secs.

I'm still using the same 250 watt power supply. Is this the culprit?

What brand is the 250 watt ? If it's a good brand it won't be the culprit.

Did you reformat the C drive and reinstall windows ? You pretty much have to if you install a new motherboard.

It probably will be the culprit whether its cheap or not. 250W is way too low to power all that gear.

It's not way too low, but you'd probably be just about cutting the mustard with even a 300w psu....a good branded one, this is. You should definately replace the psu, seems kinda odd that you even went ahead for and upgrade without changing it?

Out of curiosity what make is it?

between no formatting and a 250watt psu, thats the problem, i think 350watt is recommended for a 9800pro

Before you try anything else, i'd recommend you switch CoD2 from directx 9 to directx 7 in the graphics options.

Unless this problem occurs with all games.

    Yep full, new install.

    Yep directx 7 is selected.

Not sure of the make of the PSU. Will post back once I open up the machine..
